Recipe's For Toddlers

Hello all my first ever post, I have a three year old toddler and have run out of idea's for quick recipe's for him.
He's a fussy eater and only really enjoys mince. How can I get him to eat chicken and other meats without tantrums?

He seems to hate the chewyness of other meats or maybe just hates my cooking

I'd tackle the taste before texture.

Try mincing a chicken breast or any other meat and substitute it for the normal mince.

Once you are happy that's he used to the flavour mince it less finely, gradually changing the texture.

Most children love good quality cold cocktail sausage as finger foods - you could try this?

If you have a good butcher ask them to cut you some really thin lamb chops, grill them whole and let your child pick them up to chew on, my daughter loved this.

They say it takes a child 10 attempts at a new food before they accept it, so persevere.

fish fingers?

he doesn't have to eat a lot of meat anyway. Is he OK with eggs and cheese? he might like things like macaroni cheese.

Fishfingers,pizza,cornish pasties,pasta with tomatoes,chicken in small cubes,toad in the hole,fruit cake,pork chop and shepherds pie.

I had to think really hard to what I ate at 3. I know I liked apricot custard. Mashed potato was also popular. You can hide a lot of things in mashed potato.

I have given him mince chicken which he loves but god idea to gradually change the texture, why didn't I ever think of that?

he loves fish fingers and fish nuggets which I give him but mine are always shop bought and would love to try a healthy home made version.

Please don't laugh how do you make toad in the hole? never had that when I grew up. Am starting to feel inspired.

Toad in the hole is really easy.

I make my own batter but the batter mixes are absolutely fine.

Hottish oven, oblong small roasting tin.

I put a bit of olive oil in the bottom of the tin with 6 good sausages (we love the black farmer ones) into the hot oven until the sausages brown a bit (10 mins or so).

Make sure the sausages are sizzling and theres a fair bit of oil in the bottom (or the batter will stick). Quickly pour the batter in and pop back in the oven (gas 6 on mine).

40 mins (ish) and you're done.

I don't prick the sausages but I don't know if it makes a lot of difference. Once you're confident with the basic toad in the hole there are loads of extras you can add (I like sage in the batter mix).

We have it with a bog standard gravy mix (bisto best is ok) but I add a teaspoon of french mustard to the gravy to give it a kick.

Get Annabel Karmel's recipes online or from the local library if you are a member. They are really good for babies and young children. If you do cook from scratch and don't eat takeaways, give your son the same things everyone else has. It's great that he eats minced beef because you can make loads of meals with it, but getting him to eat soft chicken in a variety of ways will make your life easier. A chicken pasta dish, in a creamy sauce with some peas or sweetcorn is nice, and he might like Tuna cooked in the same way.
