Does Anyone Have a "Ready to Roll Icing" Recipe ?

I bought a packet recently, in plain white, but was wondering if someone had a recipe for this?
As I paid £3 for a 1kg packet which is enough to ice one 10inch cake, i think it said.
the coloured icing only come in 250g but are around £2, so i bought the plain, more for your money (i'm a student!)
therefore i was wondering if there was a recipe for this, and whether it'd be more cost effective to make my own at home?
not that i make cakes all the time, but hey..
thanks,

Probably cheaper to buy it if you`re only doing a 10 inch cake. There are plenty of recipes for fondant, as it`s known in the trade, but you need Gum Trag and Trex and obviously Icing Sugar.

Measure the height of the cake, double it and add the width(10inch). dust the work surface with either cornflower or icing sugar. Roll out to the required width...the combined measurements of your cake You can then either roll the icing lightly on a well-icing sugar dusted rolling pin ...or scoop the icing up with your hands and arms and lay on your cake....that`s the more difficult option and takes a bit of skill.

Lay it lightly on the cake, smooth the surface with a cake smoother or something similar...taking care lightly ease the edges of the cake......gently ease out the `skirt` around the side of the cake and smooth with cake smoother.

If this all sounds very complicated look on youtube cors there`s load of vid demonstrating how to apply the icing.

Happy cake decorating days!

Asda do a kilo for £2, I doubt making it would be much cheaper - would probably be nicer though!

Marshmallow fondant...put some white marshmallows into a large bowl and microwave for 30 secs, stir, then another 30 secs,stir..repeat until melted. Add sifted icing sugar, a bit at a time, until it comes together. Bit like bread making.
Dust the counter with icing sugar and knead the icing. Cling until ready to use. If it gets a little too firm for rolling then just pop it back in the microwave for a few seconds.
This works for me everytime. Its very forgiving. Also can be frozen.
I also found that if you want to colour it is best done at the marshmallow stage.
