In every series Sugar has picked wrong at the end, and it started this week.

He's blinded by his love for Chris, the merchant banker. Serial loser, and out of touch. But great at deflecting bullets.

On the face of it droning Chris with his dreadful track record of losing seems the obvious choice for Lordalun's finger of doom.
But I think by this stage he has a clear idea of who has a 'spark' that he can work with. Christopher is very competant, but clearly lacks that spark. I'm not sure I can see the spark in droning Chris either - but then I'm not Lordalun
I suspect by this point Lordalun already knows his final 2-3 - its just a case of wittling down the rest now in a tv friendly way.

If you want to watch a program that is looking for Britains most competent worker who will put in 8 hours a day of hard graft then you're looking at the wrong one.

Merchant banker boy for all his faults at least does stuff and thinks of stuff. I personally think hes crap but he has 'more about him' than the other guy.

In what way was Christopher competent? He was bland and rather crap.

Sugar is a big fan of Chris' chest rug.

He was good as a team player - Nick Hewer singled him out for special praise in the bakery task.
He rarely made the edit though - which I always take to mean he was getting on with the job and not being a drama queen (Melissa!)

Well it wasn't Chris' fault that his team failed, it was Christopher and Jamie's fault for not meeting the hotel at 9 am!

Didn't they also only have 6 appointments compared to the other teams 9? Moving the appointment was a big mistake though they might not have got an order. Sugar wanted to fire Chris so off he went..

I think Jamie should have been the one to go personally. He was at least equally culpable over the shifting of the appointment, and he's been irritating and not very good for a while now.

Actually it was Jamie's fault entirely for deciding he wanted a bit of a lie in. Can't think why else he wanted to change the time from 9 am.

His Lordship blamed Chris for not knowing an alternative time existed, but he isn't clairvoyant. He could have asked if that was the only time available, but by then it would be too late to change. Christopher's reason for accepting Jamie's input was also valid. However later on it was Christopher who failed to ask for the bagel shop manager. He just asked for someone who spoke English. Even Herr Baggs knew to ask for Der Manager.

Chistopher shouldn't have got fired and really had the makings of an excellent PM. The way he was characterised as "just" a hard worker by the programme was bad, though they all get pigeon-holed. I'm getting rather tired of the way the show has now boiled down to being mostly about selling and pitching, with each week being a slight variation. If Sugar just wants a salesman, why bother with the pretence of looking for entrepreneurs.

Perhaps he got confused and fired the wrong Chris?

In series 4 he fired two Jennies in the same task. One of them certainly deserved it more than the other, and I always wondered if the bad feedback he received on one Jenny had a knock-on effect for the other Jenny, given they had the same name.

On this occasion though, I have to agree with Sugar's decision. Christopher is not the apprentice he's looking for.

Neither are really what Sugar is supposedly looking for though. If I had to choose between employing Chris or Christopher (on the evidence in the show so far) I'd choose Christopher. He can organise, motivate, manage and even sell. Chis is one dimensional in comparison, though clearly very good at what he can do. He can't help his dull voice but it would be very offputting in meetings with clients.

It really wasn't Chris's fault they lost. Sugar preferred his teams crisps as they were more British in style. The other team blagged a huge order from the Marriott which swung it their way.

I doubt it. Jennifer M had actually been primarily responsible for losing that task due to her disorganised approach, so there was a valid reason to fire her. I'd have preferred Sophocles to go instead, because he and Jenny Celery had shown such moral delinquency (the sports shop bribery) and crass stupidity (kosher chicken) on the task, and because Sophocles had been caught out pretending to be Jewish on his application in order to curry favour with Sugar.

i won't go into detail, but i can't remember any series where Sir alan picked a top guy at the end.

I dont think any of the winners have made successes of anything, and lots of the losers have gone on to other things.
