Having trouble making Omelette!
please please can someone give me a simple omelette recipe.
i know there are some online, but i find it better communicating with a 'real human', and being able to ask questions etc. i just cant seem to get it right! how do you know when its cooked? and how do you cook the top half properly? |

For something as basic as an omelette you need really fresh good quality eggs and a decent pan.
I don't like them so don't make them often but iirc the method is to pour the eggs in to a medium hot pan and draw the egg in from the edges until it sets. You then tilt the pan to flip the omelette over to get a semi circle and the heat will finish the cooking. You're probably best off looking for vids online/youtube to get a better idea of how it should be done. |

If you're unsure about the cooking of the top just place the frying pan under a hot grill for 30 seconds to firm it up.
I like mine with mushrooms, cheese and strips of ham. Oh and whatever you do don't watch the omelette challenge on Saturday Kitchen tomorrow morning. You'll learn nothing from that. |

3 eggs, salt, pepper.
Whisk eggs, salt, pepper together pour into a hot omelette or frying pan and stir until almost set. Don't stir too much at setting stage as your end up with scrambled eggs. Fold in half and turn out on to plate and enjoy. |

Classic method:
Take two or three eggs and break into a bowl. Stir them until thoroughly mixed. DO NOT ADD ANY SALT OR PEPPER AT THIS STAGE. Heat an omelette pan on the stove to a high heat, add a teaspoon of olive oil and then pour the mixture in. Now add seasoning. Continue to stir enthusiastically with a fork, making sure the eggs cover the whole of the pan. Before the eggs cook solid (the point when there is still some fluidity in the eggs and before they became a tough lump), fold the omelette into three folds. Tip the roll to the edge of the pan, add some butter and lifting it slightly, to allow the melted butter under the omelette, brown the full side very slightly, just to add a bit of colour. Add your own choice of fillings before folding. Alternative method: Mix eggs and add to pan as above, but adding a little single cream. Whilst the eggs are still runny, place under a hot grill. This will cause the eggs to rise slightly, add filling (if you are adding cheese, it may be better to add this before placing under the grill as the heat from the grill will help to melt the cheese) and fold in half. Brown as above, with some butter. There are other types of omelettes such as, egg white omelette and omelette soufflés, but it maybe better to wait for the advanced class for those.

Good quality eggs
mix in a bowl, adding a bit of salt and pepper, until it's all the same colour heat frying pan and when hot add butter pour in mixture so it covers all the frying pan now the bit that makes it an omellette and not scrambled eggs when ot starts to set, lift the edges and tilt the pan so the liquid runs into the space as you draw the edges in keep on doing it until there's no free liquld left cook until you're happy with the sloberiness of the top, but keep checking underneath to see it doesn't burn (lifting with a fork) slide on to a plate and form into semi circle by folding over as it slips from the pan slip omellette onto |
