Absolutely no understanding of context or connection to the lyrics. Shameful.
Rebecca's version is exactly 1,307 times better. |

Adam Lambert is fantastic, but I actually think that Rebecca's was much better and more authentic; it just suited her better. Adam's is actually a little throwaway on this occasion; oversings the song a little in places when it does not require it.

To a point Rebeccas nervous shy unconfident demeanour makes her likeable but after that I get bored by her. Give her a drink or something to shake the bloody nerves.

Adam makes the song his own. Rebecca is awesome and I will buy her cd like I do Adam but Reb is not a patch on Cooke who was sublime.
![]() She also makes it more contemporary sounding. |

Rebecca being a female singer singing a male vocal, clearly made the song her own from the original version by Sam Cooke, which is so different in it's tone and expression.

Rebecca produces something that Sam Cooke would have liked by taking the trouble to understand what the song needs, not by cynically exploiting what the judges and the audience will applaud. You cannot make this song 'your own'. It belongs to history. |

Adam insults the Civil Rights Movement generally and Cooke specifically with his ignorant showboating. It is truly horrible to watch.

Rebecca is the opposite of karaoke.
Adam is the acme of generic exploitation. |

Rebecca's version is exactly 1,307 times better. No understanding of the context or connection to the lyrics? Give me strength. The song means a hell of a lot to Adam Lambert. Rebecca is one of the very few this year that I could listen to twice but the only things that stood out in her audition were her story, niceness and beauty. The performance was soporific. |

I usually don't add to a certain poster's threads for several reasons but I had to reply to this post .................. just as soon as I'd stopped rolling on the floor and peeing myself.

Then he should have given it some respect. It's not just any old Sam Cooke hit. When the Civil Rights movement got into its stride in the 60's, this song was its earliest, biggest and most important anthem. Adam quite obviously doesn't have a clue what the word 'change' is referring to. |

love Rebecca but she is Karaoke compared with Adam. You think people really can't see what you're doing when you first compare her to Lambert (who on this ocassion was the weaker performer), then go back to trying to compare her to the orginal source, Sam Cooke. I'm actually getting sick of reading contradicting comments like this; it's really beyond a joke, beyond pathetic and simply desperate. |

His version is puerile and offensive to those who recall the song in its original context.

I watched him 'mentoring' Siobhan Magnus and others on Idol last year.
Man's only got three firing synapses. Any less brain activity and he'd need to be watered regularly. |

ACIGC is one of my all-time favourite songs and I won't post my reaction to Rebecca's valium-laced version. Rebecca has grown on me since but I hated her audition.
I only discovered Adam Lambert a couple of weeks ago after a friend in France sent me a link to a song from one of his concerts and only found out that he was from American Idol a few days ago. I don't watch American Idol. I looked up some of his performances and I can't believe he's from a reality TV show. He kicks anything I've ever seen in a talent show into another universe. Sort of makes me want to check out other American Idol contestants. The only ones I know are Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson. |
