Wagner meant to to do well on the show?
Three out of the four judges dislike Wagner. He's seen as the joke contestant. He can't sing (well badly I guess!), he can't dance, but he has passion and makes people smile. But the thing I don't get is... how did he ever convince any of the judges to get to the tv stage????? Do you think the judges wanted him all along as the novelty act? I reckon some of them must have because if he's been as bad as he is now during the pre-tv stage all four of the judges (accepting Danni and Cheryl weren't there all of the time) would have said "Wagner, you're fun but you can't sing very well. It's a no." Quote:
Special guest judge Natalie Imbruglia admitted that Wagner fascinated her. Similarly at bootcamp Nicole Scherzinger got emotional watching him sing, “there is something real and honest about him” she said. Looking back at the events it does seem a bit suspicious. It's not as if this guy could ever sing well! So how come he gets this far? Disappointment at not progressing from the judges’ houses was replaced with joy, when the 54-year-old found out he was to be Louis’ wildcard choice. ![]() I just wonder if it's all some sort of plan to get him on tv to boost the ratings, who knows, perhaps even to the semi-finals or final itself and then he comes second. Simon Cowell can go "phew, that was close, we almost had this twit win the show, but I may sign him anyway." The winner - whoever it is - is seen as credible but Cowell can still exploit Wagner for a few months after the end of the show. Of course no-one could predict with any true accuracy how well he'd do at the tv stage but it does seem as if the wildcard decision has paid off. Wagner is hated as much as he's loved and this can't be bad for the ratings. |

I think Shirlena Johnson was originally meant to be the "Wagner" of this year until she got booted off. The fact she got the spotlight on the first auditions seems to suggest it at least.

I'm just fascinated how a guy with an average or poor singing voice can make it to the tv stage. Perhaps he's just been incredibly lucky!

It's not that uncommon of an occurence. It happened with John and Edward last year at least. It can help generate publicity through controversy and the like as well. I suppose in a final selection of 16 people they can afford someone who's just there as a joke. Don't think they expected him to last this long though..

He has been drawn after Mary in the running order six times out of seven : the producers have wanted him in up until now.

He's the joke act, if you don't want them, blame the judges they put him through.

Yes, Wagner is like Jedward however people are starting to believe Wagner could actually win the X Factor. I don't think anyone seriously believed Jedward would. Perhaps Wagner was put through because he was the novelty act but Cowell and the rest didn't expect him to have a large fanbase. I don't know if he will win but if the people that bought Rage Against The Machine's song last Christmas vote for the guy that may increase his chances.

His position in the running order to date indicates that the absolutely want him in the show. So far, the last thing they want is for him to be voted off.
Quite understandable really. Wagner is the biggest draw that the X Factor has had in years. |

If you think about Rage Against The Machine beating Joe to last year's Christmas number one - that proved there are enough people out that dislike the X Factor, dislike what it represents. If there were a campaign to get Wagner to win just to spite Cowell, perhaps it could work! I suppose if you really hated the X Factor you wouldn't want to waste money voting for Wagner so maybe that sort of campaign isn't that credible. The Sun seems to think there is a campaign:

At last, a balanced post about Wagner without the inane ramblings of his 'fans' - sorry if I've put the hex on this. Yes, there appears to be a campaign afoot to keep Wagner in the competition. How it's being conducted, I don't know. I felt at first that it was simply by a few maverick X-Factor viewers railing against Cowell and co., but it must be on a bigger scale as it appears that he is polling in the upper tier, rather than being in danger of elimination every week. What is sad is that this somewhat talentless, deluded individual will be dropped like a hot potato once X-Factor ends, as he will have 'served his purpose' by then.
