Did Matt offend the judges?

I just DO NOT know how Matt was scored so poorley in comparison to other dancers who messed up their routines.

Did he offend Alesha & Bruno? Before anyone jumps down my throat this is not an anti-Alesha post. I loved her as a contestant & like her as a judge but Bruno and Alesha were out of order this evening. P1ss poor judging imo

To be honest I think it was the routine itself. Matt made a few mistakes but had the routine been better and not quite so out-there crazy, I'm sure he would have been scored higher. This one goes down to Aliona I'm afraid. A pro dancer couldn't have got a 10 for that weirdness

There are several threads already for discussing this. Is it really necessary to start another one?

Bruno and Alesha were terrible last week too. I really didn't like Matt tonight though.

Never mind, it's done now.

Totally agree. But the judging was horrendous this week, apart from Craig.

Choreography aside, Matt danced well. There were a couple of small errors but his dancing ability tonight was was head and shoulders above the other male contestants, and he therefore should have received higher marks and better comments from the judges. Especially since Scott made a dogs dinner of his dance & got 2 9's?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Matt is so nice he wouldn't show any objection or anger, but I'm sure he was gutted.

Oh I agree that Scott didn't deserve the two 9s, he messed up a lot of that routine but just because he wasn't good doesn't in my mind elevate Matt or Gavin. Matt did make mistakes, the routine itself was woeful and his execution wasn't perfect. So taken on it's own he deserved the 8s in my mind.

Neither Matt nor Aliona were happy with the comments ( well who would be with bad comments after dancing a routine you thought was good ) but Aliona was sniggering at something either Craig or Len () said in a manner and then Matt said something along the lines of " yeah, like you said to Scott" but that was after the Judges had given their actual scores on the pads.
(I did see Len look at his score pad for verification while the cameras were on the Judges for their 'paddle' scores.)

Tbh, I think they were expecting more after all the PR done this week on ITT.

There was something very strange about the disparity of the judge's marking.
Like you OP, I wondered myself about the judges' frostiness towards Matt.
He danced very well, whereas Scott, who received higher scores, was nowhere near his best.

For my money, I don't think that Matt was underscored tonight at all. He was, however, the only contestant marked fairly. Most of the others were terribly over-marked, which made Matt's comments look very harsh in comparison for what was a rare well-danced routine tonight.

I have noticed that the junior judges tend to prefer classic rather than modern interpretations of dancing, and it may have been the routine rather than the dancing which was troublesome to them...

Aliona said early in the week that their interpretation of the AS was very modern and might not be liked so could hardly grumble when it wasn't liked - felt sorry for Matt though as he is obviously feeling the favouritism towards Scott with his comment to Len when Len said he had made mistakes and he said 'but recovered and carried on like you said to Scott' i think it shows he feels slighted in comparison and with good reason the judges exceptin Craig should be ashamed of themselves.

Agreed. I think it is particularly telling that one of the nicest contestants on here not only noticed a disparity in the judges' comments, but reacted to that at the time with his own comment. If the contestants are noticing the stupid marking and bias, then it shows what a total mockery it really is.

I think this is going to be really hard for him, because you can see them already struggling with Ann being there, but such a farce in the scoring is not good. I would be furious. Well, I am furious.

I had not noticed Matts comment back to Len before but they were quite pointed. M&A just looked completely bemused at the end of the comments - barring CRH the judges seemed determined to bring him down a peg.

For what it is worth this whole episode may harden Matt's support and backfire on Scott, not that it is in any way Scott's fault. There is often a backlash against teachers pet.

I'm sure it will up Matt's support but I don't think it will affect Scott's support -
Spoiler
they'll all be thankful that both contestants are through.

Just watched the judges comments again - Len, Alesha and Bruno's comments were unbelievably snide about Matt. It was a real putdown - I don't have too many issues about the marks [other than how they compared to Scot's]. It reminds me a bit of how Len was to Chris Hollins at times - the judges can try to manipulate the vote but ultimately the public have the final say.

Matt & Aliona may as well just do their own thing because they are not going to get any credit from the judges - but Matt needs to avoid getting drawn in to retaliation.

It won't put people who are already Scot supporters off him, but there are a lot of people who don't vote and/or pick a favourite until December. Whoever wins will need to pick up a lot of votes from people who have yet to vote, and being seen overmarked will not help Scott do this.

I dont think it was retaliation on Matt's part just disbelief that Len could say that Scott had recovered well when he clearly didn't as the whole dance was littered with mistakes and then say HE (Matt) had made a mistake and yet not praise his recovery - it was about his sense of fairness being outraged and he didn't say anything negative just showed he wanted a fair critique in comparison to the others

I agree, I think both of them will have more votes today.

They are prob sick of his poor me act and his always moaning about not getting a 10 until last week.

Not sure if someone has said this as I haven't read the entire thread, but I think Aliona is the one who has offended the judges. I am sure she's p*ssed Len off big time, last week with that flipping (which I don't mind) and this week she might just put her finger literally up Len's bumhole!

If that's the case, they wouldn't have given him the ten last week. Think about it.

You obviously haven't noticed how, as I've said elsewhere, "they" are always putting words into Matt's mouth. He'd never have mentioned 10s if he hadn't been cajoled into it.

Generally speaking I like Matt's dancing, including tonight. However, he was wearing some strange facial expressions and at times seemed unconnected to his partner. He needs to keep her tighter in closed hold.
