Alesha will mark everybody at least one point below Kara - Kara she loves like she was her best mate. Maybe she is.

That's the silliest thing I've ever read.

The judges would probably score Scott more than Matt just for turning up and not actually lying down throughout, asleep. That's been obvious since week one.

Matt has been scored higher than Scott four times, and Scott higher than Matt four times.

Thank you for cutting through the nonsense with common sense and facts. I am getting really sick of the high school bitchiness.

Yes Craig stood back from some of that - he's a bit more savvy than the others - who cannot resist playing up for the cameras.

It would be a shame if this becomes too personalised playing one celeb off against another - it is the judges who are at fault here not the celebs

I must say that I have commented about the tension in Matt's face on previous dances, as Alesha did this week, the only problem being that this week it would appear that Aliona wanted Matt to look tense as the dance was meant to depict struggling to make it in New York...and therein lies another conundrum, because the song, I think, is meant to reflect optimism about being there!

I enjoyed Matt's dance as a spectacle but as I fast forward all the talking and rubbish, and only watch the dances and scoring, I genuinely didn't know what kind of dance it was meant to be until coming onto these boards today. American Smmoth - really??? I had guessed an avant garde foxtrot, but it was more like a sort of slowish show dance.

The judges comments to him were over-harsh though. They were within their rights to mark him down because it wasn't a proper AS and to say that, but they seemed to mark him down for having a tense face and some other non-described reasons, that as TV judges, they should be able to properly articulate to TV audiences.

... Although if we are to look further and read between the lines, the dance could be a physical representation of the despair and angst one receives when ones dreams are not realised, even in a place where they are supposed to be (such as Neeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww Yarrrrrrrrrrk!).

The joylessness of disappointment was etched on his face (sponsored by Sennekot) as he carried the burden of Aliona (and her choreography) through the mists....

Or as Arlene correctly described it in her review in the Sun, 'A beautiful waltz and a daring choice'

FTR - I rather liked it, but I never pass up an opportunity to over analyse

It was an American Smooth waltz. I think the difference is that they could do lifts in the AS, why you cant in the waltz.

I think someone said last week witht he AS you can do a Foxtrot or a Waltz with it, Thats why Len marked Kara down the week before as he felt it was more paso.

What! Have the rules changed again this week! I thought the AS was supposed to be based on either walz or foxtrot. I can't keep up with all this.

It can be based on any of the dances. There have been some fab AS Quicksteps.

Vincent wasn't it? Except an AS based around quickstep doesn't technically exist. I remember Brian's mother mentioning it. It's based around the 4 other dances except quickstep.

It's called ambition - it gives those of who can be bothered to make the effort something to aim at.

American smooth only includes: waltz, foxtrot, viennese waltz and tango.

Hence why an AS quickstep doesn't exist. There's quickstep, and that's it. There is no American Smooth version.
Brian's mother I think wrote it in her blog over her bewilderment at an AS quickstep because there was no such thing.

That's true. You can interpret the song on many different levels. The Jay-Z/Alicia Keys version has references to drugs, locations in New York as well as its famous residents, and describes the city's essence. Profanity is also present throughout the song. So you have rapper Jay-Z talking about some of the tough "street" aspects of the city, clearly a place that could gobble-up and spit out the unwary..with Alicia's soaring chorus as a counter-balance.

Well it was accepted as a valid dance on SCD and that's good enough for me

hehe - that's why I said it technically doesn't exist. It only exists in SCD world!

Thought Matt had a dig back about the judges wanting the dancers to take chances then complaining when they do - wonder if Alesha will over compensate next week, if she says anything about the tension in his face again I will throw something at the TV
