So it's official - X-Factor cannot do rock
Two years, two laughable excuses for 'rock' music on the rock night. No Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Muse, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Muse, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers,...I could go on.
They seem to have a crazy idea that just because a band/artist fall under the bracket 'rock', every song they write falls into that bracket! So as a result we had a couple of U2 dirges with no guitar, Wand Erection singing Joe Cocker's laughably cheesy 'You Are So Beautiful', and Cher singing Avril Lavigne. Only songs on the night anyway resembling rock were Creep, I Love Rock N' Roll, Walk This Way (albeit a bastardised version) and Satisfaction (with brass replacing the guitar) |

Yeah. I mean I fully get that rock music spans many different genres - although I personally think that 'soft rock' is a blatant oxymoron - but X-Factor never breaks out of the mould of safe, radio rock. I actually got excited for a brief moment when it was rumoured that Matt would be doing Welcome to The Jungle

It also can't do Elton John, The Beatles, Guilty Pleasures, or anything else.

They want to make it as palatable for the viewing public as they can. Hence the insipid song choice. Playing it safe in other words.

I think we should have Gn'R week Matt : Welcome to the Jungle Wagner : Nightrain One Direction: Mr Brownstone Cher : Back off Bitch Katie : Rocket Queen Mary : You Could Be MIne Rebecca : Paradise City (that should take her out of her comfort zone) NO-ONE is allowed to do Sweet Child. |

Some songs you can get away with cutting to shreds but not a classic rock anthem.

JessTheCat you made me laugh so much I thought I would have to dash to the loo - I would LOVE to hear Wand Erection do Mr Brownstone - I would pay to hear that!
Personally I would like an industrial and death metal themed night - a spot of Minstry, NIN, Slayer and Cannibal Corpse would be smashing. |

I needed the loo, so I went and washed my hands and had a look in the mirror. When I returned, my friend said I looked ill. I had noticed that through my yellow jumper, I was wearing a Muse T-Shirt. I soon decided that "they couldn't do much worse on X-Factor", wasn't true. |
