A fortnight ago Simon, 51, called her “a brat” and now he is questioning her ability as a mentor.

Rubbing more salt in the wound, he even talks about his admiration for Cheryl’s rival judge Dannii.

“If I had to choose a mentor other than myself, if I was a contestant, I’d want to be mentored by *Dannii,” he said.

Well, he's hardly going to say Louis is he.

He called Cheryl more than a brat. Something about talentless in a skirt. I could be wrong

Who wouldn't want to be mentored by Dannii? He's not fickle he bends with public opinion, Simon seems desperate to have the public on his side, Dannii is more popular than Cheryl this year after Gamu-gate and the Katie saga, so now he's bigging Dannii up in public. He can see that most people are getting sick of this nation's sweetheart thing.

smartest thing Simon Cowell has said all year.

Oh well, good to see Dannii getting more positive publicity - even if it is as others have said, because he is jumping on the bandwagon.

Bet Cheryl is a bit miffed though.

Since she arrived on the show, Dannii has always been my fave judge.

I do question the song choices for this year though - Paije could have been showcased far more. Matt - he's amazing and some of the songs he's done make him look awful.

But then, is it actually our Dannii who gets to really choose the songs? If not, she certainly does the best with what she gets.

Matt Cardle, IMO, is the most 'ruined' contestant of any series. He could easily be blowing us away every week - it's all about the song choices for him.

It's nothing new, really. He has said in the past that she spends more time with her acts. He was only being nice to Cheryl in the first 2 weeks because he dropped her in it at judges houses. This is Cheryl's natural role - being a foil to Simon.

I always go back to a comment he made on Xtra Factor last year (regarding Louis) that if you're actually friends in "real life", you can get away with saying anything on the show. We see that on this forum. If Simon said half of the things he says to Cheryl, to Dannii, we'd have a forum meltdown. Because the perception is, rightly or wrongly, that he doesn't have a lot of time for her.

In this case, Simon has granted an interview to The Mirror and given them a great story. "Cowell in Stunning Attack on Cheryl" is a tabloid writers wet dream of a headline. Cowell knows that she won't actually care, they get a bit more publicity for the show, keep The Mirror happy and all in all, it's a good days work.

I understand what you're saying but I disagree.
Matt is blowing me away very week and it's all about his talent.

I think if he had been given 'esy' songs, well known U2 tracks, Kings of leon etc people would just say he's ju st getting the best songs.

He isn't. He takes what he is given and he turns each and every one of them into magic.

I'm glad that Simon gives Dannii some recognition now. I'd want her as a mentor too. No doubt!

Helloooo, marrianner.

As you know....always a Dannii fan. Still not convinced about the song choices though...but as I said, I do wonder how much the judges (other that Simon) get to really pick what's done.

Dannii is the only judge with any intellect (observable) on that panel. I actually think she comes over as a very clever person. The others don't quite so much.

where was this vote?
I believe The Mirror had a poll to that effect recently?

DS has Dannii at something like 70% or more and Cheryl & Simon under 10%!

Tellymix did a poll of 5,000 and had 60%+ voting Cheryl, Simon around 20% and Dannii on 10%.

ICM found Cheryl was most popular, followed by Simon, then Dannii then Louis.

On Google, Cheryl is a million miles ahead on search volume. She & Simon lead on news reference voume (and continue to generate headlines when the show isn't on).

Unreality TV I think has Dannii on 40%+ and Cheryl & Simon in the 20's.

So basically, it would appear to depend on where the question is asked.

I love Dannii, she's gorgeous and classy and of all the judges I only listen to and respect her opinions since the others are total brown-nosers, but jeebus her song choices have sucked this year =[

Hi there Zip
Totally agree with you on this, but I also think the way the songs are picked is clever.

It would be so easy for them to turn him into Bono, Axl, etc but instead they challenge him which so far, has worked!

Aiden should never have gone over Katie, nor was Cher better in the sing off than Paije. That was really unfair.

True - the others seem to have a set number of cliches that they rotate.

E.g. you can easily link the judge to the cliche...

"Having said that..."

"My favourite performance..."

"I want to see you in the final but people need to vote..."

Totally agree about Paije and as much as I think Aiden has potential, personally I do like Katie's voice.

Very true.....never thought of this but you are spot on.Our Dan Dan always gives very considered comments and doesn't use nonsense, over-used cliches.
