I was really excited by Rebecca's second song -- love early Aretha and it's amazing to have someone stand there live on stage (ever through the TV) and put that kind of feeling and ballsiness into their singing. Didn't think anyone would top it on the show and then Matt just about did with his last song. Cher was pretty good -- though I have to say I like her best when she sings simply (kind of a country voice with a bit of a sob and edge to it). All told, it was a good night.

Guilty as charged.

But see, Idlewildgirl is a dirty bugger too. It's not just me and Mita... There are lots of us.

But he did show a bit of versatility

Once this competion is finished he will never need to do that much live singing

When do the x factor youtube channel normally put up the videos of the performances? I've been refreshing all night waiting for NIWS so I can watch it again! SO wonderful.

meant to add I thought Cher was terrible - she's too warbly even in her rap - I'd like to like her, if she was good, I would

Wagner surprised me by actually singing, and singing with feeling. Couldn't say it was my performance of the night, but it was the biggest surprise for me.

Matt's mate says they'd sing 30 songs a night at the pub!

The guitar was minming.

I have no problem with people supporting Wagner, but let's not pretend that he's not totally crap.

Yes, I agree. I really hope that we will see more up tempo songs from Rebecca, I just love the huskyness in her voice and I think that she is such a classy lady! I love the fact that Cher is so versatile and I also agree with you that I also prefer her voice when she sings simply like with her song Stay and even Imagine. But it is obvious that her younger following prefer her rapping. I think that she has definitely proved that she can sing with these songs and that she really is probably the best performer in the contest!

I still think that it will be Rebecca and Matt in the final though and we have to vote to keep them both there!

Well although I thought that the words were quite funny and even quite apt, I have to agree it was one of his better nights but for me he is still the worst singer in the contest. But if Wagner is what you truly like then that is your perogative!

For me though I do find the man massively creepy and this is why I can see the judges were really quite amused by the song choice from Louis! I am just shocked that Louis would choose the song with those words, when so many people do dislike him!

Absolutely right!

I'm a long standing Moody Blues fan.

Nights In White Satin is from their first album with Justin Hayward - Days Of Future Passed.

It's a mini concept album with all the songs covering a part of the day

The Day Begins
Dawn Is A Feeling
The Morning - Another Morning
Lunch Break Peak Hour
Tuesday Afternoon
Twighlight Time
Nights In White Satin

Hence Nights and not Knights.

Hope that clears up the confusion.

And as a long tome MB fan I thought Matt's version was really good. Much better that most of the other cover versions (yes I'm looking at you Elkie Brooks).

Hadn't he along with some others been suffering with tonsillitis and throat problems during the week which would have affected the way he sang last night?

"Nights in White Satin"

Written by Justin Hayward when he was 19.

No one can compare to the Moody Blues original imo.

To set the record straight :

It has also been said that the reference to White Satin corresponds not to the bedsheets fabric but to a brand of gin, giving a whole new meaning to the song[1].

My view of Matt is split- I really liked him over the first several shows, and his performance of You're Beautiful is one of the Best of any contestant so far. That said, for some reason I have found myself hoping he would have a bad performance the past several weeks. (Although for the most part he has still delivered). But I was underwhelmed by NIWS.

Not sure why I find him grating on my nerves a bit lately?

NIWS. It's Nights, not Knights.

So many people are downloading the version with a K from itunes which is actually by a Moody Blues tribute band.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry as I'd actually rather no one was adding any money to the pockets of the disgusting Donegan family.

Plus his fingers weren't in the right positions for the chords he was supposed to be playing.

Agreed. He strains to reach high notes and to put power into his vocals. He sings in a way that Simon has often described as shouting when other contestants have done it. It was similar to Danyl last year who he didn't pull up for this either.

As you say, if Matt continues to do this for any length of time, he will end up doing his voice permanent damage.

I thought it was good when I was watching the show but on playing it again it was basically a lot of shouting.

I have to say I can't get past that he has always grated on me from the start. Even when I was still thinking that his performance had been very good, before I replayed it, I still couldn't bring myself to vote for him.
