At the end of the day, he's a 'serious indie musician' on a show for mediocre wannabes (not that he's much better than mediocre), and he's complaining when the show follows its own established rules, instead of his.

He knew exactly what TXF was like before he auditioned, and he's exploiting it as a quick route to fame just as much as it's exploiting him, so he doesn't get to complain about other contestants being there - it's not like he's particularly making himself more credible by singing on a lowest-common-denominator entertainment show.

MATT has lost his way his first track rock and role was unimaginative .. and something i presumed wagner would sing .. the second was ok but again ... nothing to completely wow me

If you're saying that he doesn't give a crap about what the judges are telling him, then no it doesn't make sense, because if you're actually watching the show you can tell he listens carefully to what they have to say, and has been since the beginning.
If you're saying he can't hear them because the crowd is cheering so loudly, then i agree
