Because XF is, and always was, a personality contest.
Well if it was then there are years when that was completely written out of the equation

If that were true , Leona wouldnt ever have won.
No. The thing with Leona is she wasn't unlikeable. She came across as a dull, fairly insipid and shy (much like 'little' Joe E) but she wasn't unliked.

Totally agree. His voice is good enough but I don't warm to him at all. Quite the opposite really as I can't stand the sight of him. I'm still hoping he wins as it'll be fun to imagine him shackled to a Syco recording contract
Lol He's a mini Steve Brookstein in the making.

But you said it was a personality competition.

Leona doesnt have one.

Shes a very talented singer though, which is why she won .

In other words, it wasnt about personality at all.

It will be a disaster. Anti-Matts can take comfort in that

If she'd had a personality that stunk she would not have won at all.

It was her shy and humble personality that endeared her to many.

Not true. She had the "shy girl with talent" thing going on, which made people love her a lot (kind of like Rebecca) but you're forgetting also that her final 2 partner was Ray, who was very Marmite, so in part, it was his personality that helped Leona as well.

Exactly. Leona's personality was never counted as a negative. At worse it was just a neutral factor in her winning.

The term 'clutching at straws' comes to mind here.

Winning is something that is earned, not deserved. I admire contestants who come out and say that they want to win as it shows confidence and assertiveness. Saying you deserve to win is cocky and arrogant and puts me off people. In my head, wanting something means being willing to work hard for it, whereas deserving something means you feel entitled to it.
and making it to the top 12, this year top 16 is well deserved I think. These guys worked hard to get through to the live shows and that's what I think he meant.

He is working hard now as well and I really do think he is worthy a win, as the other are of course.

Well we shall see when Matt's Syco-produced album full of choirs and auto-tune effects is released.

I agree. Matt takes his music very seriously and it's going to be a shock when he's forced to make an uber bland covers filled album. Shanye Ward is a far superior vocalist, much better looking and more marketable and the best effort they could come up with for his long awaited single was a one man Westlife like cover

He's screwed anyway. If he wins he'll have no success because he is very irrelevant and if he loses... well...
Quite the reverse actually. If he wins he will probably do okay until the contract ends, then go off and be signed by someone who will give him the freedom he needs. Losing will fast track him to the status he deserves.

BTW, not surprised that every post by the OP after the OP praises Wagner. No fear there then

Totally true. If they can screw up Shayne Ward then what hope does Matt have?? Matt fans should be praying for a loss. Seriously.

Why was him saying he deserves to win such a terrible thing?

He entered a competition with a hope of winning it.
He never said no one else deserved to win, he just said he did and that he is in it to win it.
He never has said he deserves to win.

No he didn't.

You could tell there was a pause in the clip, where it had been edited. When he said he deserved it, he was talking about something else. Clever editing as usual.

I don't think any of the contestants are stupid enough to say that.

Yes I saw that you could tell where it was edited and they always do this. I have seen it before Rhydian was edited very badly to make him the bad man we know all their little tricks.

There was no dodgy editing link. He clearly says "I wanna win it. I desperately do wanna win and I've dedicated enough of my life to it to deserve it I think". Up until this point I liked him but the whole vt put me off. The way he was talking about doing the odd jobs as if they were beneath him didn't help. News flash Matt, plenty of people work those type of jobs their whole lives and just because you want to work in music is doesn't make you special or more deserving of anything.

But then I don't think any other contestant has revelled in their own ill-mannered rudeness before either.
