One Direction Song choices
SCUSA
28-11-2010
Do you think One direction is being given the right type of songs?

To me, it seems like they have been veering off a little with their song choices. There are ton of songs that they could put a "boy band" spin on... or songs that are popular with people over 25 that in some cases some tweaking of the lyrics that could make popular with the teen crowd (and as they have said Viva la Vida was their favorite song so far, it seems like they would enjoy this route)... ie:

Better Days- Goo Goo Dolls
Everybody Knows- John Legend
Freshman- Verve Pipe
With arms wide open- Creed
Haven’t Met You Yet- Michael Buble
The Man who can’t be Moved- The Script
Wonderwall- Oasis
Show me what I’m looking for- Carolina Liar
Crazy Little Thing Called Love- Queen
Apologize- One Republic
Rule the World - Take That
Chasing Cars- Snow Patrol
Never Say Never- The Fray

or since they seem to do well with song originally sung by female artist:
Raise Your Glass[/url]- Pink
Unwritten- Natasha Bedingfield
Funhouse- Pink

It doesn't really matter what they sing. They'll still mime along to the loud backing track or have one of the only strong singers singing lead whilst the other ones stand back, flick their hair and look pretty for the tweens.

I prefer your list but Simon Cowell seems to want them to sing his own record collection and appear dated. Dont believe he actually wants them to win. I would have had them singing Teenage Dirtbag last night. .

I think they are all better singers than they are getting credit for, at least individually. Certainly Liam, Harry & probably Niall are better than most of the Under 20-something guys that made it to Judges house. The problem is they seem to have voices that are strong within specific types of music, making song choice essential...and many of the songs have not fit in their wheelhouse. (Harry singing Elton John is an example of a specific artist that matched up well to his voice- but most of his others have not).
