Mainly I dislike the guy because he started slagging off the other contestants like Katie and Wagner. Also:

His rendition of bleeding love was horrendous and I realised he's not actually that talented. And the sob story about a family friend was so unnecessary and tacky.

He's pretending to be a down on his luck painter/decorater when if fact he went to a £15k year school and abandoned his band to find quick fame on the x factor.

I agree and that's why I won't be voting for him.

Matt is the best singer in there. He may come across as a bit "arrogant" to some, but the fact is, he's going to end up with a record deal whether he wins it or not. Rebecca's the only one with the voice that could really beat him and she's been a bit too one dimensional and has yet to capitalise on this.

Desperation mainly. He's so high above the other acts that he has to be brought down in some way.

Forums tend to be misleading how much an act is disliked as people can start multiple threads saying the same thing over and over again.
Hence why Wagner isn't as popular as this forum makes out, and Matt is really liked by many people.

There's your mistake. It isn't a singing competition. The original Pop Idol was, maybe the first couple of series of X Factor too.

Today Ann Widdecombe made a valid point about SCD . She said that if it was meant to be a dancing competition, it wouldn't start with Kara Tointon (very good dancer) and Ann Widdecombe in it.

That applies to X Factor too.

I would also like to add, this is a quote his band have put on Facebook today:

"Just want to say if anyone reads the Mirror today it is all a load of balls, there is no issue between any members of this band and we would like to add Darren Gear is a pratt that has no idea and has been cashing in on Matt since day one."

I don't hate Matt but I do dislike him for all the reasons this poster gives.

I think Matt has an air of entitlement about him, which puts me off. What I find equally off putting, is fans of Matt who go banana's for me having an opinion of him. I know my opinions aren't facts, they are just based on my perceptions of him. If people can like Matt without ever having met him, then people can also dislike him as well. I like Wagner but don't go into meltdown when other people dislike him.

Especially on DS. If someone is popular here, then they probably aren't with the general public. If someone is unpopular, they are loved by the public - case in point Cheryl Cole. This forum is notoriously anti Cheryl, yet she is very popular with the public (although her popularity does seem to have waned a bit this year).

I don't hate Matt... I like him a lot as he looks nice and has a great voice and is the only contestant who sings with passion and emotion. The trouble with Brits is that they love to slag off people who are successful and that includes sporting personalities too!

What is Matt successful at?

He hasn't won anything yet.

Besides, is everybody meant to like the same things?

Sad but true - as if a highly edited VT clip and a few stories in the rags allow you to know the real person.


Funny how these stories about Matt are taken as gospel but anything about Wagner must be a lie. Personally I tend to disbelieve them on principle, especially when it comes to gossip.

In respect of your last paragraph, someone could take it & swap the names Wagner & Matt around to claim the opposite.

Well stated.Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I dont like being told who is and who isnt a good singer or who I should be voting for. It is all subjective.

Surely the same must be true for Wagner fans? While some of Matt's fans may go over the top, certain Wagner-ites are even worse. (In my opinion of course)

There's probably some in every fanbase. I don't see the point in hating a reality contestant who's really never going to have any bearing on my life but neither can I be bothered to get offended/upset on behalf of a contestant when someone else says something negative about them
