I thought I would get this in early this week for a change. Before I start, can I just let people know that this is in NOT a review as a few people thought last week, in particular, one muppet who was very critical and should read his own posts. If I want to write it as a review, I would, especially as I’m perfectly capable! I don’t need no wanna be English teacher try and tell me how to write, etc. I’m just trying to put my thoughts down in one thread rather than go on everyone and leave comments.
Anyway, back to my thoughts, I thought this week, Rock Week, was the best it has been for a few weeks. That doesn’t me everyone was great though. Also, was it really Rock Week??? I think there were only a couple of songs that I would class as Rock. Those being Summer of 69, All I Want Is You and Walk This Way.
As much as I hate to say it, Wagner was pretty OK for being him. Creep was not too bad and the style of song suited him. My concern was how people would take the lyrics of the song in relation to Wagner. At least he had the bottle to do it not like Katie refusing to do The Bitch Is Back the other week. This was certainly not as good as G4’s version from series 1 but an OK attempt. Addicted To Love was a different matter, he killed it! It just sounded awful!
One of my favourite Bryan Adam’s song was absolutely murdered by One Dimension. When I heard they were doing this, I cringed. It was flat, typical bad boy band style and one of the worst renditions I’ve heard Summer of 69 sung. The second song was a little better but, was it just me or, was only 3 singing the song. I really hope these go before the final but Simon always gets an act to the final so they won’t. I really don’t see what the appeal of this band is but they’re not that good to me.
When I heard it was Rock Week, I was worried for Mary. Personally, I love her voice even though, at times, it is a bit shouty. However, she delivered the goods as far as I’m concerned. Her first song, All I Want Is You was amazing! Don’t care much for the U2 version but Mary nailed it for me. However, her second song wasn’t as good but still really enjoyed it. I was worried about Mary singing Brass In Pocket because I didn’t think she could do it justice. Boy was I wrong! Apart from a bit shouty in places, it was nice to see a different side of Mary for a change. If that is Karaoke, then I like Karaoke.
Cher went back to her roots and sang and rapped Girlfriend. I really like the Avril Lavine version and loved it when Diana Vickers sang it a couple of years ago. I didn’t like Diana Vickers but that song suited her to a tee. However, Cher absolutely…murdered it. I really can’t stand rap at the best of time but this version was god damn awful! To top it, she killed another classic in Walk This Way. Wasn’t a big fan of the original but Cher finished it off for me.
What has happened to Rebecca? I must admit that I have never been a fan of Rebecca’s as a singer. She seems a nice person but her voice grates on me at times. The last couple of weeks have been awful for her. She sounded very nervous and out of tune on both songs for me. I still think she’ll make it to the final but just.
Matt’s first performance was pretty good. At first, it was a bit shaky but pulled it back by the middle. This was risky but worked for me. However, I maybe the only one that thinks this, but his second wasn’t that good. Started off well then murdered it by screaming it. I love the original of Nights In White Satin but Matt killed it for me. My ears were ringing with agony by the end because of how high he was screaming. Regardless, you know he’ll be safe.
Did Katie do Sex Is on Fire any justice? Definitely not! She croaked her way through it and was drowned out by the music. It was terrible! No where near the league of Jamie Archer last year. Her second song is one of the most dreary, depressing songs ever and her croaky voice murdered it completely. Everybody Hurts, especially listening to that. Katie was terrible this week in comparison to last week.
For me, again, Mary was the performer of the week, closely followed by Matt. Say what you like about Mary being cruise ship/karaoke/pub singer, I like her and she definitely isn’t a pub singer. Biggest disappointed was Rebecca. My bottom 2 are Katie and Cher. Let’s hope they both go tonight!

- if there is any justice they'd both be gone- Katie was good last week but she's been hoplessly inconsistent
