Why are the papers saying no sing off is it because 2 of Cheryl's acts could be in the sing off

Because they want the option to skip the singoff if it would work in their favour to do so. If Katie, Wagner, and Rebecca were the bottom three (in that order), they would presumably want to keep Rebecca out of the singoff so that she still retains the illusion of popularity.

Well nothing was said last night.

Will they decide if there is a sing off based on who might be in it.

Say Cher was 2nd from last and Wagner 3rd from last - would they use the sing off to save Cher but if Wagner was second last they wouldn't bother.

Surely the sing off takes up the last 15 mins - so if there isn't one they will need to do a lot of padding

because they have no time, the show is an hour long and they have 3 acts performing. should have done the double last week

Do you have a link for this? Surely they would've announced last night if there was no sing off. I know at this stage of the competition, normally who stays is decided by the public vote but they usually make a big song and dance about it and remind us 50million times that voting is out of their control and if we really do want to see someone next week, we need to vote.

That doesn't make any sense though. The act with the fewest votes goes immediately, leaving two for the sing off. They had 3 performers on before and still had time for the sing off

Wait...so have the judges lost their vote tonight then? Are they just waiting to see if Wagner gets into the bottom three and deciding from there?

I don't like that the wires of fakery on this show are so obvious.I was always willing to suspend disbelief up until this series, because it's been made so difficult! I never minded the soap opera element before, because it's always been obvious that the show was heavily manipulated, but there was always an attempt at pretence that's not evident in this series at all.

Well, don't forget that in previous years there would only have been five acts at this point (week before the semi finals, which is usually last four)

And I think I am right in saying this would be the first week - ordinarily - when the judges have no power to save

But who knows. They seem to make the rules up as they go along this year

For this reason I expect the judges will be voting again. They traditionally use the announcement that's it entirely in the public's hands to ramp up the voting revenue.

The sing off always goes in Week 8.*

How it's been since Series 1.

Although I expect someone will try and make out it's because of some conspiracy

* In series 1 it was Week 6 and in Series 4 it was Week 7, but as these series were both shorter (8 weeks and 9 weeks respectively) it was still the equivilent show they the sing off stopped - the one before the semi final.

Edit:

Probably some scam to try and save Cheryl's acts
Well what do you know

I'm not even sure how that works, did you read the thread? How does having NO sing off HELP Cheryl's acts?

There has never been a sing-off at this stage in previous years. They are following the same format as always.

The judges normally lose their power in Week Eight, when there are five acts left. This is Week Eight, but this year there are seven left, so they could do it either way.

I get that and I even started a thread asking would this be public vote or judges save but normally they mention that there won't be a sing off. Usually all the judges say after each of their acts has performed "X really needs your votes and only you have the power to save them". It adds to the drama and makes the voters feel in control. I'm just confused as to why they wouldn't have mentioned it if it really is whats happening

Yes they'd normally lose the sing-off but there are more acts at this stage so they may want to retain it for that reason. We shall see!

There hasn't been a show with 3 performers and double eviction.

Plus when there are three performers, the show is either longer (e.g. when Take That, JLS and Westlife were all on it started at 7:45PM) or the group performance is mixed in with one of the guest (e.g. Bon Jovi's performance), but I can't see that happening with tonight's guests

so if there's no sing-off we could get rid of Cher AND Katie to-night!!! now that would be a result.

And although we have three celeb acts they can still do a sing off if we don't get a group song. Are we def getting a group song?

I know but having a bottom three adds about 20 seconds to the overall show. Dermot says "the act with the fewest votes and leaving immediately is ....". Act leaves and they have the sing off as normal. As for having 3 acts on tonight, maybe they'll do like they did with Bon Jovi and make the contestants sing with the guest!

I would expect at this stage of the competition that it is public vote that decides who gets through, I'm just surprised they didn't make more of an issue about it to generate more interest.

You'd think theyd want to keep the sing off as their last attempt to get rid of Wagner, as I can see him slipping into the bottom three, but not the bottom two.

Remember by the original plans for the show you would already have lost 2 more by this week.

Schedules would have been made, so I'm guessing they are sticking to it.

The sing off seems kind of pointless anyway. It's not like it really affects the decisions made. Case in point: Anyone versus Katie.
