Desire randomly rebooting
I think my phone is norked
![]() It's rebooted itself about 6 times in the last 2 days. Would anyone know if i'd get a straight replacement or would they give me a loaner and stick it in for repair ? i'm 6 months in to a 24 month deal so should still be under warranty. Got it through phones4u as well .. don't want to let it go as i unlocked it a few months ago as well so I could potentially flog it for a lot of money ! |

Does unlocking void the warranty?
Just a thought before they use it as an excuse for not reparing it. |

This is what I'm not sure about. I guess the only way they'd ever find out is if they specifically tested for it.
If they just took the phone as-is and didn't ask then hopefully that would be the solution. I guess worst case scenario is I sell it on ebay and buy a san francisco payg handset. |

I think i'd just go for the repair. If the unlocking issue comes up just plead ignorance!
I don't know how much of a ballache it is to update the firmware on that phone, but if it's something that you can do I think i'd try that first. If that doesn't fix it, have a think about anything installed on the phone around about the time the problems started, and remove if necessary. Then if you're no further forward - get it in for the boffins to mend! |

Have you tried a factory reset? this sometimes works, there's been a few problems with various android phones rebooting whenever they want and this worked for me. (make sure you back everything up first)

The firmware is updated to Froyo 2.2, but i've never had any real problems with it up until the past few days.
A factory reset certainly sounds like something to try as well though - cheers. |

i guess the very nature of the problem - being "random" - means it's going to be pretty hard to actually convince them i'm not trying to pull a fast one - which i'm not.
I know i wouldn't be able to get a Desire HD or swap it for an iphone or anything stupid like that, but I don't want to be saddled with a handset that reboots itself whenever it gets a bit bored .. |

You can just send the phone straight off to HTC to repair. They give you a 24 month warranty. There's a big thread on the XDA forums of people who have sent there's off and recieved a new motherboard/phone which has fixed the problem. I guess the only problem would be not having a replacement phone but it's probably less hassle going direct.

Thanks for that TKJ - i'll certainly look in to doing that. There's a possibility I might be able to wangle a loaner for the duration, but i guess with christmas coming up it might be a while before i got it back.
I think i'll pop in to Phones4U anyway, just to see what they say because I guess you never know. It rebooted itself [i]three times[/i during match of the day ! |
