Would Anne voters
pabird
28-11-2010
Appreciate their own type of show
A dozen "Anne or JS" selected contestants who would compete with no holds barred
Partners would have to be volunteers and you would have a different non-dance earning judges
There appears to be a belief that the majority of voters are voting for Anne although the beeb will not publish the actual votes, considering we are quoted viewing figures of circa 10 to 12 million and Anne plus her support believe they are the majority the show of their own would naturally be a huge success?
We “minority” dance fans could carry on supporting SCD
Or
Would that not suit the Anne type voters?

Many more viewers are tuning into Strictly to watch Ann, she's a ratings winner.

Strictly is what it is because of the range of celebs and their differing standards - they don't know in advance (they don't audition like DOI) if the worst dancer will have a big personality or that the best dancer might be boring - part of the fun of the show for me is getting to know them and seeing their progression - or not, as the case may be. A show full of perfect beings doing everything perfectly to the same perfect music would quickly become boring, as would a show full of duffers getting it wrong every week.

Gavin was worse to watch than Ann last night, but his waltz was lovely - you never know how each week is going to go - who'd have thought Scott would mess up so much last night? And many people (me included) thought Michelle was going to be terrific because of the musical background, yet wasn't expecting much from Pamela - the Beeb have managed to get a great mix of dancers of all abilities every year - something for everyone. And regardless of this serie's outcome, they'll continue to do it the same way, because it works.

I've asked the mods to look at the number of Ann threads - hope they merge as many as possible.

What does that have to do with anything? I appreciate it's all the Beeb are after but those of us with an interest in dancing are appalled by her behaviour. Didn't the series Alesha was in do better than all the others, especially the final? And that was a series with very little nonsense - good dances, great contestants, best dancer won.

Besides, all the loyal Strictly viewers that have watched year in, year out for dancing are being put off by the Widdy effect and a lot are saying if she wins they won't be coming back. So in the long run, the viewers Ann Widdecombe brings in will not outweigh the ones who won't return to watch next year and so actually, she'll be the death of this show. If only TV producers planned for the future as opposed to the immediate.

That was the series with Kate Garraway and she was generating a similar reaction to Ann.

There's usually one 'joke act' every year.

This really is nothing new.

Yes but she went in week 6 or 7 I think. There was no threat of her reaching the final and maybe winning.

What about Fiona 'Ragdoll' Phillips?

Chris Parker?

Many considered Julian Clary unworthy as well.

Maybe we could send them all on tour. I am sure that the voters of She Who Must Not Be Named would stump up any amount of cash to see such a line up:

Chris Parker
Quentin Wilson
Diarmud Gavin
John Sergeant
Gary Rhodes
Kate Garraway
She Who Must Not Be Named
Fiona Phillips

Up until now, the weaker dancers at least tried to do the dances and the steps even if they weren't very good at it.

Yes but they at least tried! It's the lack of effort that is driving me insane about Ann. She doesn't try at all and gets away with it every single week. I don't get why that inspires people to vote

The same argument used to be trotted out for John Sergeant - I know, I used to defend him!

Ann doesn't put as much effort in as the others, but to say she doesn't try at all is an exaggeration. Len pointed out genuine Rumba steps that she did this weekend - and we saw her practicing them in training. Her execution is terrible but that could be said of all the celebrities on the above list.

She's hilarious to watch and appears to be enjoying it. I can see why people tune in and vote.

Scott complains as does Gavin and their performances this week for me were uncomfortable to watch.

I don't actually vote.

Rather than changing SCD into something it has never been why not instead have a serious no nonsense dancing show/competition. I doubt the BBC think they would get the viewers because if they thought it was viable they would have done so by now.

Isn't that 'So You Think You Can Dance'?

I thought that was supposed to be the serious dance programme. I don't watch it though, I find it boring.

Was that not the last series where the money went to CiN? I never minded as much then when bad contestants stayed in past their sell-by date as at least the money was going to charity. Also, with it costing more to vote, I think there wasn't the same power-voting that there may be now.

That's a shame. SYTYCD is great fun, IMO. And what makes it interesting, for me at any rate, is that the dancers, although skilled and able, come from a variety of dance disciplines and are then challenged by having to do entirely different styles than the ones they're used to. From ballet to hip-hop is quite a reach, and vice versa.

I'm not a dancer, but 325 series of Strictly (as Claudia would say) have taught me a bit about ballroom and Latin, so it was interesting to see experienced, trained dancers struggling to master the samba in SYTYCD, for example. It was a great lesson for all those people who moan about any Strictly contestant who has had a bit of dance training in the past.

I don't like Ann Widdecombe, and I wish she had been voted off ages ago but, like it or not, as Scattyjan said, we can be surprised at how people we expected to be no-hopers turn out to be quite good (Darren Gough, I'm looking at you).

What I actually asked was "would Anne voters" like their own show made up of Anne type contestants?
No response as such to the question
As they believe they are the majority of SCD people they must hunger for 12no Annes
