It's not about the length of the series - it's the fact that they haven't gone to two-dances-a-week like they usually do. Compare this year to series 5 - same length of series, same number of couples, but this year had one extra dance (Charleston). The difference is that in series 5, they danced two routines from week 9 onwards, whereas we're now in week 10 and still on one routine each.
If they'd done...
> Weeks 1-8 ~ one dance
> Weeks 9-11 ~ two dances
> Week 12 (final) ~ usual
...they could have fit all the dances in, but they haven't!
Let's say Matt gets to the final. With one dance this week and two in the semi, he will have danced 12 of the 14 styles, but we'll be left wondering, for example, "I wonder what Matt's paso doble would have been like?"
I just don't think it's right that someone could win the series without having performed all the dances!
