Movie week

OK, I am not a fan of the theme weeks. And it hasn't been made clear yet whether it is dances from films or dances to music from films (while presumably mimicking said films in costume, theme etc.). But, there is one upside - there are so many great routines from films out there. I've just spent a happy half-hour looking at routines from films on Youtube. What would people recommend to watch (before the routines are ruined by SCD wardrobe and warblers and Widdecombe?

For what it's worth, this is what I've been watching tonight. Some with a view to how they would translate to SCD, and some just because! A few I had remembered as perhaps being suitable, but weren't as good in the re-watch. Nothing then to stop them from using the setting, but elaborating on the choreography.

Il Conformista - tango. Last saw this on the big screen and had remembered it as more... well, memorable!

Mr and Mrs Smith - tango. I had remembered this as a routine that could be SCDified well with lots of props, but again not too much dancing.

Scent of a Woman - tango. This could be done quite well, I think.

Take the Lead - tango (yes, this was a theme). With Katya. Shame she and Gavin are seemingly doing the Foxtrot, as it would have been fun had she been allowed to do this.

Shall We Dance - tango. This was MUCH easier than I remembered.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - barn dance. Sadly, too many dancers needed.

Swing Time - Fred and Ginge(r). Sublime.

I'll undoubtedly think of more tomorrow. So, which routines would you love to see; which, looking back, would you like to see but wouldn't fit; and which would you run from the room screaming should anyone decide to do it next weekend? Remember folks, clips are your friends!

Always thought Erin missed a trick there by not recreating the All of Me mirror dance when she chose the song to dance to. Maybe Anton can go the full hog with Ann - I'd quite enjoy seeing him flatten her at the end.

I think we need to distinguish between musicals and movie themes.

I'd say that 7 Brides, and the Fred Astaire movies are musicals.

A movie theme, IMO, shoud be the theme tune to a movie that it not primarily about dance.

eg Gavin dancing to the theme from Superman.

[One of the celebs on DWTS did Superman]

I prefer the more traditional ones e.g. Chicago/ Flashdance/ Dirty Dancing/ Fame etc.

I don't think they are going to be so rigid as to restrict them to theme songs from movies. The Pro dance was billed as movie themed and they chose Let's go Crazy from Purple Rain.

Why though? A movie of a musical is as much a movie as any other! Just because it was once also a stage show shouldn't discount it, especially because half of the best soundtracks, in my opinion, come from moie musicals.

Ann was dressed as Dorothy - all she would have to do is walk across the floor with a little skip here and there - even she could manage that! But what about Anton - tin man, lion or scarecrow?
