It's not really any different from when people occasionally swear at friends, family or whoever. Not a big deal really.

It did kind of catch me off guard. I think Matt was clearly more upset about her swearing directly to his face than just swearing. He gives off the impression that he's a very mild mannered fellow who (probably) is against using swear words of any kind and never would himself but accepts that everyone has a right to use what-ever language they choose to.

Aliona on the other hand appears as a passionate, fiery individual, and I imagine he's heard her swear quite a few times before, he just took exception to it being directed straight at him.

Aliona is Russian, yes? I think we need to take a cultural perspective on this, as well as the fact that they are two adults working in a stressful situation. Russians swear as easily as they draw breath, and their mildest oath is one that would have Widdy doing a Gillian McKeith and fainting on the dance floor (incidentally, it's muck your futher, as Spooner would say). As another example, if you really wanted to upset Camilla Dallerup, I was told that the worst swear-word you can say to a Dane is something along the lines of 'may you get cancer'.

I personally think that particular VT was cobbled together to show that all is not sweetness and light in the Matt and Aliona camp, in an effort to dampen their public popularity. If he is at the top of the polls, as has been leaked, anything vaguely uncomplimentary to either contestant might help restore some balance. Who knows?

I agree with all of this. Being temperamental is par for the course with all performers whether actors, singers, dancers (of all kinds stage, bb, ballet) or circus acts.... It's the temperament that makes them what they are - those without it rarely become good performers.

I do agree with you on that , i blame the BBC more than anything for showing the VT . I did meet Aliona once after a show and she was really lovely and sweet but when you are watching scd with your ten yr old who is dance mad its not the kind of teaching you want them to see .I maybe just a bit overprotective though .x

I didn't like her after saw that video. There is no big deal to use swear words in one-to-one classes imo. It is more to do with her attitude and her anger management while teaching to Matt. If she gets that much angry,then she clearly doesn't know how to deal with Matt. And if she continue to go down in this route,as usual their fans always have to fight for their marks rather than they get the marks easily what they deserve. She is a great dancer,but she doesn't bring the best out of Matt.

I didn't answer the OP directly before so I'd add that there's nothing wrong with using swear words per se but it's the manner in which they are used. And I didn't like Aliona's manner - haven't for a while now.

That was my immediate thought, especially as the first bit of the VT was them saying how well they understood each other. They always look very comfortable together, so I'd be inclined to think any annoyance was the exception rather than the norm.

Plus I'm known for being a Sweary Mary, and I would still be annoyed if I were standing six inches from someone's face and they spat a swear word right into mine

I do get the impression that Aliona is/was ever so slightly besotted with Matt and this as well as the somewhat bumpy ride they are having in the show might also be causing frustration on her part.

What are you saying that Aliona has come on to Matt and as he isnt interested is getting ratty with him!

When i started to watch the show i liked Aliona lookwise and dancewise. Slowly i started to analyse why Matt is not getting full marks or appreciation though he has got lot of dancing skills. I came up with only one answer and that is Aliona's choreography and she always thinks about herself rather than Matt. It was confirmed by that video,thats all. I never warmed to her character.

No. I'm saying she perhaps idolises him a bit and gets frustrated when he understandably falls off the pedestal now and again.

I've never thought Matt & Aliona looked entirely comfortable in each other's company - either on or off the dancefloor - and that's what has stopped me warming to them as a couple.

This is possible. But so is the opposite. There's been a couple of responses on here along the lines of 'Isn't Matt sweet, he doesn't like swearing'- that might have been the intended effect too!

And as it's not right to just say I agree with Sid, I'll also add that I like them both but they have never seemed a good match, dance wise or other, to me.

That doesn't mean that they don't get on, I'm sure on a day to day basis they do, but thier partnership lacks something, a chemistry that the best ones have. Added to which they also look slightly odd together too.

Man alive, I would never take an edited VT in a reality show at face value!

And if anybody really thinks that the air isn't occassionally (or frequently) turned blue in these training rooms, even with the "angelic" pros (let alone that beastly Aliona, with her pink hair and her ways ), they're kidding themselves.

I see what you mean, but I think the awkwardness is because I just don't think either of them is all that comfortable being interviewed. Aliona is sweet and funny, but a little ungainly when she expresses herself - Matt, for all his natural charm and on-camera relaxation, seems a little reticent to really open up under questioning.

To be honest, on the dancefloor I'm increasingly convinced that Matt is as guilty of holding back emotionally as any Matt Dawson or Gethin Jones, but people have failed to remark on it because of his technical skills. The difference between Matt and, say, Rachel Stevens or Ali Bastian is that I'm pretty sure the emotion is in there waiting to come out.

However, Matt seemed really shocked and genuinely irritated when he was accused of lacking emotion this weekend, so I don't think we're going to get any more out of him

I was very frustrated with the judges because this is the first time I quite liked what M & A did!

If they were purposefully manipulating the leaderboard (and I have a nagging feeling they were this week but I won't go into all that again!), then they are playing a dangerous game. Like you say, the judge's comments could cause Matt to start second guessing how he expresses himself.

I agree with this, they come across as a great couple, but shy and awkward (with the camera and stupid Tess questions, not each other). To me anyway.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. They seem genuinely close.
