Guess Matt reads the forum then, and is doing some damage limitation.

Part of the problem with these sorts of clips in the VTs is that we rarely get much of a sense about the row, disagreement or whatever happened. To this day I've no idea what the Mark/Karen bustup in Season 4 was based on.

Perhaps he thinks that it will put voters off, but he shouldn't worry, it won't.

Matts obviously ambitious and like most of them much tougher than he looks on the surface. I wonder if certain BBC heads will roll for that VT , hope not

He admitted that they argue, he just was uncomfortable with that particular VT. The clip was weird, and there was no real explanation for it, it looked like he was having a go at Aliona for no reason (to me, anyway). It was good that he brought it up.

I'm not getting the outrage over Matt and Aliona's VT which showed Aliona swearing. We've seen lots of the pro's swear at the celebs in the past. I don't remember people being shocked then so I really don't know why people are shocked now. In actual fact I thought it showed that Matt and Aliona had a good partnership- she felt comfortable enough to swear at him and he felt comfortable enough to tell her not to. I thought it was a really funny moment actually and it made me laugh. I didn't get any sense of bad feeling between them, in fact I got the reverse.

I like that observation!

If we look at the other pro's and how they vent their frustrations...

Brendan walks out (Fiona), James makes personal insults (Georgina) and Nicole leaves the room in tears (Diarmuid)... a swear word is probably the least dramatic way a pro can vent frustrations.

He did react like he'd never heard the word used before, but I would imagine there was probably more to it that attracted such a reaction eg. he was trying his hardest and Aliona out of frustration said something that pushed a button that would never probably be pushed with such a throwaway comment. They're now 10+ weeks training together. If it's in her nature I'm sure it's not the first time she's let slip the odd "dirty" word.

Going to the original question, I would say that I hate swearing in any shape or form, circumstances and from male or female.

I come from a country where everyone and their babies swear. Really, does not matter class, education or gender 90% of the population swears, there is no ban on swearing on tv during daytime either. However my parents brought me up against that and for me to say a swear word in Spanish, well, something really bad has to happen.

However, when I am speaking in one of my non native languages, such is English, a swear word does not seem so bad. i know the meaning but it does not feel such a repulsive words, and yes I have sworn probably a ratio of 50/3 in terms of English/Spanish in my whole life.

What I mean by all that is that Alliona first language is not English and she may not get the swear words as much as english natives do. The inclusion of that on the Vt makes me think that they want drama and maybe to put off some fans. As a fan that usually is offended by swearing myself, I am not upset at Aliona, she is a vivacious character with strong personality, she is not afraid of doing things different. She may not be everyones cup of tea but she has become one of my favorite females pros, and I am glad she is with Matt and not Natalie, otherwise they would have been such a "everything is so wonderful, he is the best ever, she is so great!" couple.

I shout a lot more than that...but then I aint a laydee either Rossy!

Its very difficult when Im around the in laws too...if I dared to swear at all there I think my MIL's head would explode. So its a lot of "shine a light" and "goodness gracious me" over christmas for me!

I guess I might be the only one who sees plenty of chemistry between them. I see more natural, unforced chemistry between them than between Scott and Natalie, which to me also have chemistry but more on a professional level (we are in this together, let's make it work).
I guess I identify more with Aliona's character (although I don't swear regularly!) than with natalie's, and I can understand more what Aliona is about. I like Aliona's fieriness and the passion that she puts into everything, makes me understand with her frustrations sometimes.

I like Aliona but do feel that she might gain more votes for their partnership if she changed the colour of her hair. It is difficult not to look at it and, for me, spoils their excellent dancing.

I don't think swearing is an issue. That VT came off as about more than just swearing at him in my opinion. They spend a lot of time together, they all do and Matt & Aliona have never come off to me as being BFFs. But I don't think it's that Aliona is eeeeviiilll or anything so silly. I think it's just that they're around each other a lot and didn't exactly hit it off to begin with so are even more likely to niggle and gripe than some others. It's not quite so dramatic as the OP makes out in my opinion.

I would stop voting for them in protest if she changed her hair colour.

As we have no Musings from John this week, I thought forum members might appreciate this, from one of my favourite Strictly blogs, 'The Woman Who Talked Too Much', on Matt and Aliona:

Quote:
“Next it's Matt and Aliona. Rescue me, Matt. In the VT, Matt says, "There's no doubt about it, Aliona and I are a great team, to be honest." Thus I conclude that he HATES her. Aliona says "Our secret is that we understand each other very well without talking to each other." Yup. She hates him back. Much as I love watching Matt and Aliona dance, there is a little part of me - well, a medium sized part of me - oh OK, I basically am dying to see them crack and start trying to kill each other on the dancefloor. First Matt would pull her by her My Little Pony pink hair. Then Aliona would gouge her talons down his happy farmer face. Come on, admit it, it would be AMAZING.

Instead they perform an American Smooth. (I can't help but notice that the producers - the same producers that make Scott look like an arrogant, self-satisfied cock in the VT each week - are also giving him the same dance as Matt each week, as if to say to the audience, "Look at these two identical dances, and see how much better one of them is." Who did Scott shag and never call back?) It's clearly been designed to be incredibly romantic - flowing garments, glorious lifts, do I detect rumba-influence choreography? - and yet the whole thing is immeasurably improved for me by imagining the two of them spending the entire dance thinking about how much they loathe each other and devising elaborate revenge scenarios in the manner of Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas in War of the Roses. "When I watch you eat, when I see you asleep, when I look at you lately, I just wanna smash your face in."

Alesha says that she's disappointed, because she didn't feel relaxed watching it, and Matt's face looked "tense". I have to agree, if by "tense" she means "you looked like you wanted to bite off one of Aliona's ears". Bruno genuinely mentions the words "American Psycho" and "murder". Apparently, I am not alone.

Scores: 8, 8, 8, 9 and 9 from me, though I'd have given another point for bloodshed. Tell you what, I have massively perked up.”

We have no idea about their relationship, of course, but this take on it made me laugh.

I thought more than once that it has clashed with thier costumes, especially in ballroom. In the dance with the swing, it detracted from the the couple for me. My elderly stepfather who watches I suspect specifically for the girls loves her and Kara but is also a bit baffled Alionas hair bless him. But then again he's not a voter so..

Aww I feel like I've been a bit mean to Aliona today, and yet I think that she's my favourite female pro to watch in the group dances because she's an amazing dancer, sometimes breathtaking to watch.

I have seen plenty of butter not melting, but will be braced to cover my ears now. It would be in Russian any way, well beyond my uni Russian vocabulary. The army's job is violence, so anger and dominance there would not be out of place. Hard to see how a feelgood show would benefit from anger which leaves a mark on both parties.

If one is to be sworn at, then it's best coming a poet with a vast vocabulary. He would come out with such witty putdowns that being on the receiving end could be a privilege.

I'm not bothered whether Aliona swore at Matt, or whether he ever swears at her. But I thought their VT on Saturday night was quite uncomfortable to watch, and I think Matt's comment on ITT was his genuinely sad reaction to that "Don't swear right in my face" comment being broadcast just before they danced.
