I haven't tried BBC HD recently but I normally have no problems with outputting as .ts. Is VRD up to date with the latest beta? Are you sure there is no re-encoding going on? Are there any clues in the log?

Now you've mentioned it, how fast is the HDR in ftp mode? And do you still have to record HD manually in non-freesat mode?

Since November last year BBC1-HD has not been encrypted you can record in freesat mode, copy the recordings and burn to DVD/Bluray blanks in AVCHD format.

Yes, I understand that that's true, but I was wondering more about whether the opening up of ftp has made a difference to what's possible with encrypted recordings.

A different issue obviously from Automan's problems trying to edit BBC HD with Videoredo.

I shall try mts format and check for a beta version of VideoReDo to see if that helps.

Try customer support they are usually very helpfull. They will ask for a short clip of the source recording.

What are you using to play the output files. On my relatively underpowered laptop vlc player is very choppy. Splash Lite works no problem though.

I've just had a go and topped & tailed Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. (I had to chop off 2 seconds of the credits to get the first edit since I missed the very beginning). It works perfectly. So it looks like it isn't the video that's the problem.

A few possibilities.

First, as Graham asks, what are you playing it back with? Does the original look OK using it? What does the edited file look like in Videoredo? Have you succesfully edited BBC HD on your machine previously?

If it's not an underpowered CPU it could possibly be a disk input/output problem. Can you save the output to a different hard disk? (Bit of a long shot.)

When you say it's pixellated, is this a constant feature on playback or a couple seconds when you skip forward or backward? Brief pixellation is to be expected if you land in the middle of a GOP, and it will normally sort itself out at the next I frame, or perhaps if you pause.

Are you sure there's no re-encoding? Do your H.264 profile options look like this:

Is there any clue in the log? Here's what I get during the 2.5 minutes it took to fast frame copy:

i.e., nothing at all. No messages during the bulk of the editing process.

I have been trying to play them back on my D-Link Boxee box which plays the raw Humax HDR .ts files with no issues.

I will try them on another media player.

What happens if you use AV2HDR to replay the edited files from a usb drive on the hdr. You can use videoredo to produce a sub 4GB test clip if you only have fat32 usb storage. ?

Thank you, Graham, for the hint about Splash Lite. I have created lots of HD videos from my HD camcorder and edited with Vegas. But my relatively high powered PC still could not play without choppiness on anything including VLC, but this Splash Lite plays all of them really smoothly. Thank you.

Editing of Elementary Streams is not yet supported.
Nothing sophisticated here... merely plain AVI.. which Win Media plays and EVEN XP Win Movie Maker Edits!!
And SplashLITE will play the output of movie maker but will not even open the originals..I'm still on XP for these aspects so am puzzled at what seems to be Fur coat and no underwear..

AVi is not an actual file format it's merely a container for a myriad of formats, so there is no such thing as plain AVI. Video can for instance be uncompressed with huge files or from a DV camcorder DV compressed 720 x 576 with about 4GB for 20 mins to tiny resolutions for web and portable video devices. It stand's for Audio/Video interleave. VRD is a mpeg editor. Need a bit more info but basically the footage needs converting to mpeg2 compressed footage for DVD. The resolution is not standard for DVD either

I did Graham after a convoluted download and input then failed..but glad it did really as the Analysis feature is fantastic..
I knew the system was Home Office approved for the Courts...and now know of the IMM4 codec and the resolution as 704x576..

Too High-Tech for me at the moment Graham..as NO Component output or Scart for that matter and I am without benefit of HDMI...
