I have seen the message in the GuidePlus EPG section informing me of changes in January. Having just checked the GuidePlus website they suggest that the DVDR7250H will not be compatible and to use the Freeview EPG. This unit only has the GuidePlus EPG.

Therefore I am assuming as of 01-01-2011 I have a useless Freeview box as it has no other EPG. OK it will receive programs and probably record if I manually set the time but that's not very useful is it?

This got a brief mention in another thread, it seems rather odd that these digital tuner models are unable to use the internal digital tuner as a source for the guideplus data.

I have a later DVDR5570 which is also listed as not compatible on the Guideplus website. I had assumed that it would work with the digital tuner, particularly as page 29 of the supplied user manual specifically lists Multiplex C as a source for the guideplus data.

If it does not work, I'll be contacting Philips to express my disappointment (again).

I am affected by this; my Philips HDRW720 is almost useless as they seem to have turned off Guide Plus on ITV1 analogue a month even before they said they would.

According to Philip's it's not useless as you can still record manually on it. Yeah Thanks that makes it all better.

More information:

Contrary to what Philips have told me, an external Freeview box will not work to supply my DVDR7250H with an EPG.

DVDR7250and Guide+

I have the Philips HD recorder in question and called Philips this morning. They are going to send me an additional box to enable me to receive the freeview program guide. They answered the freephone number straight away and were really helpful - the best customer experience I have had in a long time.

So is that a freeview box to get a guide on your TV or to see the guide on the 7250 (which I think is impossible but would like to be proved wrong)

Like harvestman I contacted Philips (having done so previously) and they have provided me with a new box to get the EPG. It wasn't offered during the first call but went along with their suggestions (unsucessful) and then contacted them again quoting my case reference number. Took its time coming but Philips have come good in the end.

Hi All,
Philips are now admitting to the Guideplus problem up-front and offering a Philips/Pace PVR as a gesture of 'good will' while you still keep the old unit for the DVD-R functionality.
If you've got one of these machines then ring them!

Their number is 0800 331 6015 and all you'll need to do is raise a ticket, give them the model number and serial number, then they'll automatically tell you that the fault is due to 'digital switch-over' and offer to send you a new PVR.

Good luck

Is GuidePlus still available for the dvdr5570 or the dvdr5520 as explained above?

Or if not, does that mean they now have no EPG at all or are they displaying an alternative freeview or unbranded version in the way Sony and Pioneer do?

The DVDR5520/5570 is unable to use the guideplus data transmitted via freeview. There is no alternative EPG on the machines either.

The only source for guideplus EPG data for these machines in the UK is now Eurosport via a Sky digibox.
