Just read this on 'Breaking News'

Widdecombe: It takes a sense of humour to appear on 'Strictly'
30/11/2010 - 15:42:45

Ann Widdecombe admits she needs a good sense of humour to participate in 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

The former Conservative minister - who has become a firm favourite of the public despite receiving consistently low scores from the BBC One show's judging panel - is pleased she has been paired with professional dancer Anton Du Beke, as he helps to inject some humour into their performances.

She said: "It doesn't take guts to appear on 'Strictly Come Dancing'. It just takes a sense of humour, that's all. And Anton has got one. If I was with someone who didn't have a sense of humour, it would have gone terribly.

"We'd have gone in week one, because we simply wouldn't have got on. I've got a sense of humour and he's got a sense of humour. It was pairing genius on the part of the BBC. I didn't think I'd get him because he's a foot taller than me, but that's part of the humour."

The 63-year-old politician also revealed Anton has already been making plans for the show's final next month, which will see Ann "fly" again.

She added to Digital Spy: "Anton has for some time been putting together plans for our showdance if we happen to reach the final. I don't think I'm giving too much away if I say that I shall fly.

"But, nevertheless, I must stress that there are still four more eliminations between now and then."

It takes guts if you're actually there to dance and try Ann. If you're going to make yourself and the competition into a joke you need a sense of humour, no matter how unfunny it may appear to everyone else.

To be fair, it's not really Ann making plans for the final but Anton.

And if there's a remote chance of them getting there, then I don't blame him for planning ahead. I'm sure the other pros still in the competition are beginning to put together ideas in their head for a possible Showdance too.

Perhaps they'll hoist her right up into the ceiling and just leave her there, permanently

Every dance is a showdance for Ann! Enough already

Let Anton feign an injury and bring in Jimmy Carr as his replacement. He's Ann's kryptonite. What the judges can't do, Jimmy can.

Oh for godsakes, stop it! If I hear Ann's name again I shall puke.

She clearly doesn't understand the rules of the show then - there are three more dancers eliminated before the start of the final. At which point we would see the show unfunnycomedy (as it won't be a dance) whatever happened even if she was eliminated to be third *sigh*

The thing that annoys me most is not so much her arrogance, although I notice that she has added the 'if we get to the final' when talking about it now. Nope, it's not even how disrespectful she sounds of her fellow competitors that gets me, it's how she's allowed to get away with it without anyone pulling her up on it.

If Scott, Matt or (blimey can you imagine?) Gavin were talking like this there would be uproar. Instead there's a sort of resigned acceptance of her, like she's some sort of loony old aunt left to get on with it. So she gets a free pass to do as she wants like she has in so many other aspects in the competition.

Oh well, to paraphrase Kenneth Williams -what's the bloody point in us moaning about it all, it won't change anything?

It is wise to make contingency plans. It's just indicating she is not resigning.

Totally agree.

Without a doubt they are all planning ahead with the hope of making it.

Of course they are making plans, they all are, they'd be crazy not to at this stage.

It's not that, it's the promising her public what she'll do if she makes bit it that Ann does that I think is arrogant and presumptuous. However it clearly doesn't bother the BBC, usually such sticklers for impartiality in these things, so I've decided that it shouldn't me either.

Besides, there's such a thing as overconfidence and if she carries on like this it may be counterproductive and the public could turn against her.

It's just such a downer to think that a third of the final could be wasted with silliness when, if all was right in the world, we could have three top notch dancers battling it out. I pray she doesn't make it to the final. It will ruin the whole spectacle.

Agreed, why have a person with two left feet in the final? it doesn't make sense.

A final with the Widdy?
That'll make it a very good evening to go and see the new Harry Potter film. It's been panned, so what, at least I'll recognise the story.

*yawn* another attempt to get people to carry on voting for her, like she did with "wait til you see my samba and then rumba"

It has, but only by reviewers who haven't read the books. To Potter afficionadoes it's brilliant. Dark, exciting, scary, excellent.

Arrrgh, I can't wait to see the final one.....
