I'm taking photography for an A Level, and in need of a new camera.

I'm getting this for christmas..

Just wanted other opinions really before i decide for definate.

Is it a good camera? Whats the picture quality like? Ease of use? Would you overall recommend it?

I own the D5000, with the 18-200mm zoom lens. Very happy with the kit.

Aye, I think the nikon kit lenses are made to a higher standard than the canon ones. But then again, I see more canon owners buying other lenses (the 50mm f/1.8 II seems most popular) and majority of nikon owners I have seen stick to their kit lens.
