Disappointed to find this evening that my BT Vision card no longer allows me to watch Sky Sports on my other freeview boxes, ESPN still works but Sky doesn't, typical

This was pushed by sky, they don't want the card in unauthorised equipment such as a cam that could potentially allow for pirating such as card sharing. so the card now only officially works in TUTV boxes, BT Vision Boxes and some ex setanta boxes.

Is was firmware update? My Dads has stopped working in his ex topup TV box so I would have thought that would have continued to work.

Nah, basically sky don't want cams to work only boxes, and i can tell you why as pure Genius will understand.

there are linux satellite boxes that are capable of doing DTT as well, if i slotted a sky card into a CAM on a server, i could open cardsharing. then i could in theory get that linux box to read the server to obtain card info. boom channel is unlocked. by blocking cams stops that from happening.

this method of viewing is 100% Illegal. And is not to be encouraged.

Sagem should work... basically the boxes produced that were setanta branded. they were very close to when setanta went under. these were mostly sagem boxes. if yours was setanta branded and came with a setanta viewing card then these will work. However you'll need to have sky sports loaded on the card from TUTV. BT Vision one won't load.

Does it? mines quite stable, im getting 100% qual and strength now on Mux's 1,2,A and B. getting 100% qual and 95% strength on C and 100% qual and 90% strength on D.....

that said the original silver boxes do have tuner weaknesses.

original silver boxes have 2 USB on the back and a phone port, the updated silver boxes have only 1 USB and no phone port on the back.

I remember another member here stating his tuners were weak, BT swapped his silver box out, and he got the newer silver and got better results. Maybe the original is pure phillips and the 2nd silver is an actual pace in disguise? (pace have good tuners - the sky Rapier and Cobra pace boxes were renown for speed and tuner reliability.)

The early silver box has an average tuner, but the black box has an excellent tuner. I have both and the reception difference is remarkable. Additionally the black box is much faster to use. Shame it doesn't have a bigger hard disk, but then a bit of DIY could solve that.

Stuntmaster : To answer your question on BT's own forum the answer is Yes - as an existing Vision customer you could buy a Vision box from eBay etc and swap it in directly to replace your current box

Obviously your recordings on the old box disk would stay there, but all scheduled recordings would then occur on your new box (because your recording schedule is kept on the Vision servers).

Provided you don't buy a dud, this is the best way to get a black box without extending contracts etc. But it sounds as though you're a modulator user, so as per my other post if you upgraded to a black box you'd need to get an external modulator unit to keep your multi-room viewing option.
