BT line down
tootles
30-11-2010
Our BT line has come down in the snow storms. We have our telephone service via cable so we were not using it anyway but do I have to report it?

The line has come down across the back garden and is lying over the path, so it is a danger. I don't want to risk life and limb going up a ladder to cut it off but would BT come out to remove/replace it even though we are not subscribers ? Would we be charged for their attendance?

Anyone got any idea? Thanks

I think you may have to report it.

if you have not already done so phone 151 and report the dropwire has come down from you're premises and is a danger they will send an engineer out to recover this no matter what time of the day or night as it is a danger to the general public

The OP is not on BT so calling 151 will not help as that will go through to their cable provider who won't be interested as it's not their equipment.

To get through to BT faults try calling 0800 800 151. Whether they will do anything about it is another matter.

Of course they will.

Even if they did not want to do anything (which is unlikely - they're not that irresponsible) the possibility of a large claim for injury caused by their property will focus their minds.

Thanks for the replies, folks. I emailed BT faults and they told me to report the line down to Openreach. I have done that and they say they'll get back to me in 3 days! Only 1 day left before they run out of time.
Thanks for your help folks!

Well they came last Saturday, whilst we were out at the shop ( been snowed in) and removed the line. I don't know if they'll string another one seeing as we're not with them (they left the other one up unused) but at least the risk of entanglement/tripping and decapitation ( depending where along the fallen line you encountered it) is over.
The other bit of the line is still dangling from the pole, but as the ground is under about 3 feet of snow, I can see why they've not done anything about that yet!

The OP should report the problem to his service provider who will pass the details on to Openreach.
