Gavin mentioned today that he thinks that he'll not only make the final, but "go all the way", which means he thinks he could win. Now he seems like a nice guy and many other people like him because of his dry humour, but he has just got to be kidding! Bar ann he is the worst out the bunch, even patsy was better than him. He also thought that his jive went very well, when it was one of the worst jives i've seen on the show. Katya also seems to have jumped on the delusional band wagon with him. He has improved, yes, but he in no way deserves to win, or even make it to the final.

I don't think there's anything wrong with him saying that (I reckon he's half joking anyway!), but then I don't believe there's anything wrong with Ann saying it either, or any of them. Why did they take part of not to go as far as possible?

I do think Gavin was a bit deluded regarding his Jive though. Was having flashbacks of Craig from last year!

I think the trouble is that to placate the public and try to hold back any kind of backlash over being harsh (for harsh, read truthful) what the judges end up doing is convincing the rotten celebs that actually they're quite good and only need to let go, train harder etc. It's leading them up the garden path but the only alternative is to treat them like Craig does - honestly - and we see how that works out every week. Threads about how he's mean, he's too harsh, he's too critical blah blah. So to be honest I can't blame Gavin for thinking he's got it in him to win because the judges have encouraged him to think so, when in actual fact they're just placating him to avoid a backlash. And of course his pro is going to tell him he's great - they want to win more than anyone on the show lol.

Yes, but, we know the truth - and so I'm sure does Katya.

But what else can the contestants possibly say in reply to those moronic questions put to the contestants week after week??
"You asked me that last time, ask me another."
"Can't you remember what I said last time?"
"Sorry, I've gotta rush to rehearsal. Oh, I'm in the rehearsal room, OK I think you had better go."
"Purleeeeese, think up some more questions."
"Who are you, exactly?"
"I said that last night on ITT and I haven't changed my opinion."
"I can't leave SCD now, I need the money more than the others do."
"If I don't say I'm going to win, my partner will kill me."

etc

Katya said that this Saturday will probably be their last.

Even Gavin thought they were going home last weekend and they hadn`t prepared a final dance together

Didn`t realise the couples did that tbh

Err, he's always coming out with the positive statements, that's who he is. It's a sports thing, PMA and all that. Don't read so much into it.

That he thinks the jive went well is more worrying. I'm beginning to wonder if Katya's training him well or not.

He mentioned the final yes (with tongue firmly in cheek) but he also, earlier in the interview, said something along the lines of 'We are in the quarter final who would have thought it'. I felt for him in the VT after the judges comments......he doesnt like to let Katya down and I think he thought that he had danced the dance as it was coreographed......I tend to think that the coreography wasnt the best this week.

what I thought was quite funny was the disparity between him and Katya. Usually it's the pro egging them on to get to the final. katya seemed to have pretty much packed her bags while Gavin was all for getting to the final. You've got to admire his spirit. The competition is good for him. If he does go out this week, and Ann stays in, then we know for sure that all the celebs who are trying every week to dance the best they can, are wasting their time. And that truly would be depressing

I'm sorry, I really like Gavin, and Katya is lovely, but I do think that some people wear rosetinted glasses now in relationship to him. His bewilderness about the bad remarks and scores weren't tongue in cheek. He was dead serious and reminded me of Craig. His Jive was rubbish!! The judges were overly generous and Katya was talking balls.... and he was talking sh*te as well.

I like Gavin and I want them to stay in, but tonight he was annoying me. The little boy persona, "the judges are mean to me rubbish" does only work so long. Get your act together and dance, and don't do a Craig Kelly on me

Sorry he wasn't good on Saturday, and he should have the "balls" to admit it.

Anyone who watched 71 Degrees North will realise that nothing but being the winner will suit Gavin. He was furious when Marcus beat him at the end.

I think that people think he was being tongue in cheek when he said he was 'going all the way' and I think that Gavin was annoyed at Len's comments (you hated it, I hated it and everyone else hated it) because it was based on statements Gavin made at the start of the week when he was only learning the dance and he has said before that he thinks Craig doesn't like him - which I don't believe is the case - Craig just believes he could do better. Granted Craig did compare him to Ann and at least Gavin tries to dance so who wouldn't be annoyed at that comment?

I think the going to the final comment was a joke. I don't think he thinks he's going to the final.

As for being honestly shocked at the comments, I don't think he's delusional about it. I mean if thats what Katya taught him, and he thought he'd nailed what Katya taught him maybe he was expecting just NICE comments. Not Len to tell him he hated it and Craig to tell him he was giving Ann a run for her money. Gavin can only learn what Katya teaches him, I don't think he thinks he's a challenger to Matt, Scott or Kara but at the end of the day Gavin can't see what he looks like dancing whilst he's dancing and might have actually felt it went alright to his standard which is lower then the top 3 or 4s standard.

I personally enjoyed his jive, its wasn't good but I loved it.

So Bruno thinks Gavin looked liked Clark Kent? This picture shows that Clark Kent is much better looking than Gavin - IMO, of course!

I watched it and yes he wanted to beat Marcus but any anger he would have had was with himself because he knew he messed it up by going at it like a bull in a china shop.

Marcus was on ITT tonight as Gavin's friend so obviously absolutely no ill will there and spoke about him in exactly the way I feel about Gavin.....Its all a front.

He may be upset and short sighted about the jive but there is absolutely no way he thinks he is good enough to win.

I meant that he was furious with himself but didn't express myself very well - not unusual!

Gavin doesn't realise that the tremendous self belief and 'talking up' he needs for rugby isn't understood by everyone. His facial expressions show that he's sad not to be a better dancer or to have got better marks. It's not delusional, to say that it's possible to win - it's a tactic, to help him stay motivated and positive. He countered the self motivation routine by saying that he was glad to have got to the quarter finals.

I saw Gavin on Chris Moyles quiz night
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/c...quiz-night/4od
and he came across as very shy but competitive. To become an international rugby player he must have self believe and a determination not to give up regardless of previous games/results. I think he is bringing the same determination to SCD and I wouldn't expect anything less from a professional.

So true Jan I watched 71 Degrees North too and sorry Gill P but Gavin losing had nothing to do with being angry with Marcus but all about not giving his best in the final!!! I think he and Katya have a great partnerships and I would be more than happy to see the pair of them in the final!

Lach, we're no longer the same person

I don't think saying 'I didn't think it was that bad when I did it, so to have the comments I got was upsetting' is in any way being deluded - more being upset by the realisation you're actually not very good. Particularly as Bruno made it very clear he felt Gavin was actually just not working hard enough to get the dance across, and that he wasn't actually a bad dancer 'full stop'.

It was Katya that was pushing the whole 'he was undermarked' side of things, and even she acknowledged that this week's probably their last, up against the big four and Ann.

Other posters have been right to say there's no point coming on the show if you don't keep pushing to do your very best and believe you've got the chance of another week, every week. Without that atittude, Paul and Peter might as well have watched the others for 30 seconds, grabbed their coats and gone home

Well even the greatest mind twins have to disagree from time to time.

I honestly don't mind about pushing and wanting to be competitive. This does not annoy me. I even voted for them quite a few times. But, I wish, he wouldn't have sat there and said, well it was not so bad, it was quite good or something thereabouts. Actually it was pretty bad. I want him to say that he wants to get to the final, I want him to work for the final (I don't think he is being delusional because of that), but I want him to admit when he was rubbish.

Katya's attitude and her trying to say that he was better than the judges suggested is dangerous as well, because such behaviour will feed delusions. If you know that you are rubbish at something you can improve. Otherwise you can't.

Sorry if I didn't make that clear. It's not about his aspirations to get to the final, it's about his self-reflection when it comes to the jive.
