No, the truffle failure was entirely due to targetting Knightsbridge, trying to get hold of Gordon Ramsey and eventually settling on a high-end restaurant. You're right, everyone makes errors, but this was quite frankly a howler! Hardly 'obsessive' to point this out to those who won't acknowledge it and try to lay the blame elsewhere....

Isn't that what I said, pretty much?

I thought so.

And I think something similar could be said about the tartan. Even if you don't know the price, I don't think they should have accepted a mere £1 discount. They should have walked away and tried somewhere else. The good thing about a discount as poor as that, you don't really risk losing it by walking away.

That's a very good point.

Amazingly I don't think anyone's brought it up yet.

One would imagine that before negotiating a price that they would also have compared prices with another supplier first to get an indication of what the RRP was? If for instance they had been to the supplier that the boys went too, they would have got the tartan for a much keener price even without haggling. I can't believe that they wouldn't have approached at least two suppliers?

Definitely. It wasn't so much lack of persistence; it was clear no significant discount was going to be forthcoming. It was their poor judgement in not trying elsewhere. But then I think that was all part of the tendency of the girls to see the task as primarily a treasure hunt, which it wasn't.
