Got money off in a few large chain stores, electrical ones especially are always worth a try. The OH gets embarrassed and will go and wait outside, but I'll quite happily do it, and not afraid to walk away, it's a very rare occassion when a shop will have something I want that I can't get anywhere else, and 8/10 I'll walk away with a discount. Besides, it can be fun

I am piss poor at haggling, but even I would have gotten a good discount from that old man and the indian couple (like Jamie did).

They clearly got lucky with which shops they visited, as the girls seemed to all have stern looking men (or old feeble ones, that took ages to come to any sort of conclusion).

I would probably always defend this show in regards to rigging, but in this week's task there was a whole lot of coincedences (what about that truffel woman gazing in the eyes of Chris Bates :yawn.

I once haggled when making big purchases. I was buying a 32 inch flat screen tv and a washing machine and buying the guarantees which was a mistake and not worth it imo.

I told the guys at Curry's that if they wanted me to buy the 32 inch tv off them and the rest, the I wanted a free DVD player and this was nearly 10 years ago as Comet had an offer of the same tv at 28 inches with a free DVD player and they agreed quite easily.

I have also asked about price matching and Comet had a price matching offer once when I was buying a mobile and I got them to match Argos's price which was cheaper. Otherwise I pay whats being charged etc

Depends on the purchase. Obviously when going into Tescos to do some shopping I don't start haggling with whoever is at the till!

However, when making bigger purchases, it's always a case of don't ask - don't get. My girlfriend is very shy when it comes to buying things, and so asked me to go with her to buy an acoustic guitar. I told her just to tell the guy this was her first guitar and if there was anything else he could offer - he gave her a free stand, case and a selection of picks!

Like Lord Sugar says, the worst thing they can say to you is 'No'. It's better giving it a go than not.

Haggle if it's worth it. For higher-priced items. Not when you'd save £2 after wasting 10 minutes of your valuable time talking the price down.

Legally an advertised price is an 'invitation to treat'. If you were selling the last limited edition print of a valuable painting and you had competition for it then you'd raise your price and it is perfectly legitimate to do so.

Always try for a free guarantee/service plan/accessories etc.

I did a bootsale last year and bloke kept haggling over a dvd I had it was a good one but I was selling all dvds for £2.50 and he kept trying to say £2 I said no no no about 40 times and he kept coming back.

I would have rather smashed it to peices infront of him than give him the 50p off.
