If music is important to you. WP7 is a good choice. It's zune software is probably among the best music software there is for phones/mp3 players.

Also you can buy a Zune Pass for £8.99 a month that gives you unlimited access to subscription music (you can either stream over the internet or download to the phone).

There are some other cool features like Smart DJ and channels which will be coming in the January update which are good for discovering new music.

All the Android apps on my Desire were perfect and worked just fine.

Either way I prefer to decide for myself about apps, I'm very confident on my own abilities, I don't want or need Apple to decide/censor it for me. They won't even let me read an Android magazine. Where does it stop?

It's like going to Tesco who have decided not to stock my daily newspaper because "the newspaper criticised us".

I know two people with an iPad and a few with an iPod touch that use an Android phone... and they are on the verge of getting rid of their Apple products because they're fed up of the censorship. The iPad et al are supposed to be media consumption devices...

Yes indeed the Android marketplace has lots of rubbish apps, but guess what, you don't have to download them most of the food in my local supermarket is not of my liking and guess what, I can choose not to buy it I know I know... shocking.

I've given Mrs Elway my Desire as I have a Blackberry and our apps that we use are very perfect, very very perfect

I wonder why Apple disciples have this need to waste their lives trolling threads that are about competitors insisting that their product is better... when the discussion was never about their product to begin with.

Jehovah's Witnesses do that don't they?

Having used all the major smartphone platforms, Blackberry is my least favourite by a mile - some of the apps are truely dire, though its hardly a platform thats aimed at the average user, so some of their more specialist apps are never going to take off. Androids marketplace is simply too full of utter gash and whilst some may argue that this is great because it shows a total open-ness on the platform, to me its simply clogging up the marketplace with some useless tosh. iOS was and still is the most relevent, intuitive and useful of all the marketplaces. I can find almost everything I need without trawling through a pile of useless apps. WP7 marketplace has potential, but its still early days, so im happy to have a little patience before I make up my mind completely. I'd never get an iPhone again, but they win when it comes to apps - thats obvious to most people.

I dont understand you arguement about not having to download the apps - what difference does that make? I personally would rather have a marketplace which isnt clogged by useless apps, thanks. I also dont get why people are constantly saying they cant do things on the iPad or iPhone. Its missing flash - thats hardly a deal breaker. I cant think of any website I would use that employs flash. My experiences of flash on a mobile unit have been awful so far.

As for your apple disciples comment, personally I only currently use a Macbook (superior to any PC ive ever owned - for my own needs anyway) and intend on getting an iPad once the next generation is available. It seems to be a-ok for the Anti-Apple brigade to spout their tired opinions on a regular basis, yet if anyone sticks up for Apple theyre branded sheep or 'disciples' as you put it.

The conversation steered this way due to a typical anti-WP7 poster who constantly feels the need to rubbish the platform, therefore causing the conversation to delve into the usual nonsense. Anyway, its hardly a big deal...this is usual for this part of DS.

I think you were the first one to interject Apple into the discussion. How is the iPhone "my product"? Did I say Apple was better? No. Did I suggest that the OP buy an iPhone? No.

What I said was that Windows Phone 7 hasn't taken off and probably never will. Owning a product that will be an also-ran like the Palm Pre has certain drawbacks. By all means go ahead and buy an Android device. That at least has a future.

You do seem to have a rather odd fixation on Apple, but it appears that you are not alone. However, that is a pretty odd club to want to belong to.

Probably never will according to you, naturally. Given that its only been out for over a month, I think its far far too early to tell. It has support from right across the board, however MS clearly shot themselves in the foot by limiting some of its features. As has been said a number of times, the updates will dramatically change the capabilities of all the handsets, and this is supported by the vast majority of tech blogs and websites, all of whom loved the handsets from day one. As has also been mentioned, Android was not a roaring success from day one and took a year to get into the mainstream with the HTC Hero. I knew absolutely nobody with an Android handset until that model appeared - so lets not pretend that it was a game changer from day one.

I think its healthier to wait and see rather than rely on two or three articles which point out the stats after a few weeks on sale. As ive said before, MS will not let this fail - Kin was a totally different platform and story altogether. It was never intended to be their newest and greatest mobile venture, rather an experiment.

Windows 7 will find it quite hard charging a premium.
However network subsidies and support will certainly make it a relative success.

Apple has the long term problem of a limited the web experience and no memory expansion.
Restrictions are there are in order to control the customer force feed them with the app store and their ads.

Yes I agree.

I have seen one Windows phone and agree with what somebody else said, if you're really into music then it's really good. I am, but just not on my phone.

True

There is certainly no guarantee of that. Look at Palm and it certainly didn't help Windows Mobile.

Limited Web Experience.

And iPhones are selling like hotcakes.

The controls are there to keep rubbish and malware out. Android marketplace is the Wild West.

I couldn't agree with you more.

It's like they're on a continuous mission to justify why they use that what they do. It's irritating when a discussion was never about their 'product' to begin with and they have to keep bleating on about it like somebody cares.

And again, when the same happens in an Apple thread, nobody cares...in fact its openly encouraged. Double standards.

How is saying that Windows Phone 7is looking like another sales failure for Microsoft (Kin, Zune, Windows Mobile being others), bleating about my product? (which is a Nokia E72).

Windows Mobile was a failure? Youre trying too hard now.

Back to the ops post it really depends what the user wants the phone for.

I'd go the the Desire HD for its lack of restrictions and the fact that its already has the full web.
With Android it is now only the budget £100 or so Android phones that now have the more limited web experience.

Easy choice

Desire HD

I was in your position a few weeks back and did a lot of research into both phones. I went for the DesireHD and have not looked back since.

It is a great phone and the OS has some great apps most of which are free.

Angry Birds
City Jump
Slice It
Hyper Jump
Wordfeud

Tech Buzz
Gaming Buzz
Mobile Buzz
My Player
mp3 music

to name just a few of my fav games and apps (all are free)

It is a good android phone (though I think it has the old bigger screen, smaller/same battery issue that's hitting the HD7).

It might be helpful to the OP if you say why, based on the research you did, Desire HD is a better choice than the Mozart.

Well looks like both are a fail for me, I doubt its a HTC issue but FM signal on both appear to be rubbish, ok its a minor thing but it was a selling point for me.

My Samsung i8510 (on S60) is good for FM radio. I think it has some magic circuitry because it starts off crackly then after a few seconds I get pretty decent quality.

I'll sell it to you if you want

Given it's decent for my samsung, perhaps next stop is to check out the Samsung Omnia 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S.

Have you tried a different set of earbuds? The ones that came with my Desire also didn't provide a great radio reception but when I bought a different pair it was fine.

I've not got the phone yet to try, I'm only going by what I read on the net

Oh ok. Well as with anything, you're only going to get the problems highlighted online, people don't tend to rush to say "it's working just fine as advertised". It may be just fine.

I had Desire, I have Trophy with WP7 now. There are not so many apps for WP7 yet. UI is a matter of a personal preference, I prefer WP7, I like the minimalistic look. Both organise text messages into conversations (I do not know if it is common with all smartphones), which I like. I prefer WP7 way of presenting them to user. Both phones do things as I expect them to. I'd go for WP7 phone, but I always liked the UI, since Zune HD, it is based on.
