I love sushi

Any other sushi lovers here? Better still, does anyone here make their own?

Sushi head here... especially when there's a nearby sushi place registered with Just-Eat...

i prefer sashimi, though itsu do a really nice hoi sin duck sushi.

I have made my own sushi before using nori and chicken marninated in teryaki sauce, aswell as thinly sliced cucumber and spring onion. I also do my own version, probs not very authentic but very nice. Basically i make the sushi rice, form it into little blocks, mix a little wasabi with mayo and spread on top and finish with pieces of smoked mackrel, or butterflied prawns.

I love sushi! I've made it before and it turned out quite well but the second time was a complete disaster. I don't do it these days because it's too fineckty and time-consuming (with quite a low success rate!) plus I don't know any shops which sell sushi rice, which is annoying...

Love it. I have several different sushi bars that I frequent, each different in some way from the others. I usually get sushi a couple of times a week.

I've made my own in the past, but it never comes out nearly as well as when a professional does it. I follow the recipe for sushi rice, but it's never the same. We do have a decent harbor with a market for fresh fish, but I don't trust myself to cut and prepare it myself without training, so the only sashimi-grade raw fish I can get comes frozen. I guess some of the upscale grocery stores stock sashimi-grade fish that hasn't been frozen, but after my mediocre experiences I haven't bothered trying it.

That's great! It's quite expensive in this country to eat at a sushi restaurant, so I usually do it every few months.

You can buy the little maki and California roll packs in food shops, but it's not the same. Fresh is best.

Unfortunately I don't live near a Waitrose.

That may be for the best anyway. I've cut back a bit for fear of the mercury content in seafood, especially from the larger fish like tuna. But I like it too much, so I probably eat it more often than I should.

I generally prefer nigiri to sashimi. You can't really make a whole meal out of sashimi, it's too much. You need to add something anyway, and sushi rice is a good combination. Some maki is nice for variety, but that can go the other way and have too low of a ratio of fish to rice.
