I've been with Orange for as long as I can remember, and my monthly cost is £25 for 900 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet. Apparently the reason it is so cheap is because I've been a "good customer" and that was what they put me on 18 months ago when I upgraded.

Anyway, its time for another upgrade. I want an iPhone 4. The tariff I need is the same, except I don't need as many minutes.

Spoke to Orange the other day, and they told me it'll be £119 for the phone then £35 a month.

Does anyone know a way I can get them to drop this down a bit? My girlfriend started a new contract in a shop because she was offered the same, and when she phoned to cancel they told her they would have done the same for £10 a month? Would there be any truth in that?

Any ideas?

all you can do is say you want to leave if your out of contract and they might give you a deal.

Unless you know someone who works for Orange there is not a cat in hells chance of bringing the cost of the iPhone and its associated tariffs down in price on Orange.

I get asked the same question, and people say they can get this with another network who are cheap, short end of it when it comes to that phone you can take a running jump cos there aint no room for manipulation, like all the other networks what you see is what you get.

Iphone is an expensive con and best avoided.

I don't think the iPhone tariffs are negotiable on any networks. They are very expensive because, quite simply, people are willing to pay. Have you considered an Android handset like the HTC Desire (also newer HD version) or the Samsung Galaxy S?

I've looked at other phones but really the iPhone is the one I want. So what your saying is basically I'm gonna have to suck it up if I want one.

Surely Orange have some kind of turnaround department when people try to leave, that can offer deals that you usually wouldn't get?

IPhone pricing is fixed there is no room to move the cost.

Unless you buy phone box only then keep your current deal running on 30day terms, you are going to have to pay up

Orange offered me a 3GS for free, with the same monthly price (£35). If I want the iPhone 4 (which I do) it'll cost me £119....

You can buy the phone from apple sim free then put your current sim in it using a cutter. Only way to keep your priceplan

The iPhone costs them too much for any real leeway so a move elsewhere would maybe be necessary.

All via the cancellations department so get the PAC code while on to them.

I thought price fixing was illegal, Apple seem to want to artificially control the prices the networks can sell them at. This isnt in the interest if the consumer.

When I initially spoke to Orange they said that the prices are the way they are because Apple say so, and they aren't allowed to change them.

I doubt it is fixed. Its that there is minimal profit margin on most Apple products.

Networks are probably far happier to have them on display yet sell none.

When I say fixed I mean as in the networks wont offer off book deals..

Where as price fixing would be networks colluding together to set prices, which is illegal and not what I meant

Your Orange loyalty discount will and should be carried over to the iphone contract ONLY if you do the upgrade over the phone. you can't keep it if you upgrade in store or on the net.

Normally you get another 5% off each time you renew, sadly you won't get the 5% when you renew onto an iphone contract, but you DO get to keep what you already have. Mine's 20%
