I personally think her new album "the entertainer" is really good, and it didn't really like her previous album. So why do you think it isn't selling? Is it the material? Promotion/marketing or something else?

I bought it - surely the kiss of death as I also bought Nadine and look what happened there.
I don't think she's done enough promotion and Drummer boy is pretty much hated as a song. Also, the SCD ageism row didn't do her any favours. She went from potential national treasure to 'just tolerable' over night. I like her new album though. I love that she MCs on it and the tunes are catchy and a bit more urban than her first album, which I like. |

I think there's two main reasons. Firstly, she released it at the busiest time of year, and she got lost among the bigger name acts and X Factor performers. And secondly, Drummer Boy was a terrible choice of lead single. I reckon that her label had overly high expectations for her, and they must have been pretty shocked when Drummer Boy and Take Control both flopped.
I really think if she'd waited until February/March and released Baddest Chick as lead single, and Radio/Colour/ Cool With Me as follow ups, she would have been much more successful. I'm not happy about Every Little Part Of Me being next single either. It seems like she's released a string of bad/average songs, simply because they have someone famous connected to them i.e. To Love Again (Gary Barlow), Take Control (Roll Deep), Every Little Part Of Me (Jay Sean). Its a shame, because it really is a great album. Kind of in the same vein as Cheryl's I guess, but far better. Hopefully she'll be able to turn it round, maybe re-release it next year? |

Didn't even know the album was out? Did Alesha only mention this on SCD and forgot to tell the people who don't watch the show.

It reminds me of when Rihanna released Rehab because of the connection with Justin Timberlake. She only released it because he wrote it. He featured in the video but I thought they'd do another remix of the song with him singing the second verse or something. Pointless cameo. |

I agreee she is lost in the sea of releases this year. It's a pity as its a really strong album. The Alesha Show went platinum and only peaked at no 11 and was a bit of a slow burner.
Perhaps the Jay Sean song will be a big hit for her and propel the album up the charts in the New Year. I like her because she has a personality unlike Tattoo Maniac from Newcastle. |

Because she is known first and foremost as a TV presonality now.
OK, Cole could argue the same thing, except that she does'nt have personality but does have Cowell pulling the strings for her. |

I said this in the other thread, but she is simply no longer liked by the public the way she was before, because of her becoming a Strictly judge, the ageism debate, and her arrogant attitude towards it.
The BBC wanted her to become Strictly's version of Cheryl, and it has backfired spectacularly because most of the show's viewers respected the fact they always had highly credible judges, and for that reason they have never accepted Alesha as a judge, and rightly so. Hence people aren't interested in her music any more. |

I think its because before this album she was seen as a family friendly, BBC singer of Gary Barlow ballads.
To suddenly throw back to her Mis-teeq style urban music probably alienated a lot of the people who previously bought her records, which is sad, because its actually a really good album. |

I think it's due to a number of reasons.
1. Her music's crap. I loved the Drummer Boy vid - it was slick and looked great, but the song was dire. 2. Her voice isn't good. In Misteeq, Sabrina had the strongest voice (and where is she?!) while Alesha was known because of her rapping. But then Cheryl Cole's vocals are dreadful and she's ruling the airwaves as I type, which leads me onto... 3. Her promo team are shite. She's on Strictly which has upped her profile and she should be capitalising on that, but it seems nothing is happening for her. So to sum it up, her music's crap.

Yep, which is ironic when you think how much the show helped relaunch her career in the first place

I completely agree with the poster who stated the Christmas excuse as a reason. She has been lost within the huge amount of artists that are releasing albums at the moment. To be honest, if I didn't frequent these forums I wouldn't even know that she had an album out! I know she has music out, due to radio/music channels etc. but wouldn't know a date that her album was being brought out. Which is a shame, because I loved her first album!

X Factor for Cheryl was different for several reasons. It had been several years since PSTR and she was part of a group when she became a judge - her solo career came off the back of her increased profile through the show. Also, its a music contest - a singer judging a dance contest makes little sense. Strictly is the wrong demographic for her music, and even worse is that most viewers just haven't taken to her. The whole thing was spectacularly misjudged. |

She's not a great singer to begin with but the songs are rubbish too. Optimal flop conditions.

I wish she'd just reunite Mis-Teeq.
Even from 7 or 8 years ago they are more "current" now than the likes of Cher Lloyd is being touted. |

I also believe a lack of publcity hasn't helped, although appearing on SCD each week is great publicity for her personally. I've seen tons of adverts for CD releases, but none of them have been for Alesha's new album. |

Right..... the thing with Alesha Dixon has been is that once she won SCD she was hot property therefore was able to release her debut solo album and gain some hit songs, however once she became judge on SCD it was kind downhill from there... replacing popular judge Arlene Philips... age row.... judging criticism etc.... I think she kinda lost her sparkle... also i think she should quit the show and give her music career a proper shot because i just dont think she's promoting her music well enough, she needs to regain momentum once again.

Because her personality, well how it comes across, is just bland. In interviews she seems quite arrogant also.
Plus, her voice is squeaky in her songs, and people just dont like her. |
