one person one vote?
Dolly Tubb

Hello everyone! I've enjoyed this forum for ages and the excellent good natured banter

So I hope you don't mind me sticking my four penn'orth in. Now, I might be being a bit naive here, but I had what can only be described as a 'glitterball moment' the other evening. So I have to ask, do SCD viewers vote more than once for their favourite?

I only ask because I always thought that was what was done - one person, one vote. But I am starting to think this might not be the case? If that's the case, then are the results a true and fair representation of the GBP's opinion? Is my one, single, lonely vote for Kara not worth it as someone else somewhere with more beer money than me for premium rate lines voting a hundred times for Scott? Equally divided public opinion, but the voting suggests differently perhaps?

Told you I was a bit naive- are there any T&Cs anywhere? Rules? Restrictions on the phone lines used? Your answers much appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy taking part in the banter.

There are no restrictions, so people can vote how often they want, and I'm sure sometimes, the majority of votes might not only be associated with a majority of support but with supporters who are more willing to part with their money. I have voted multiple times on previous occassions.

Its a free-for-all, no restrictions, vote as many times as you like. Who pays wins.

Welcome from me too!

I must admit I have never voted less than 3 times each time, although I don't always vote.

Interestingly there are limitations on the number of votes on DWTS.

Welcome, its always refreshing to read messages from new posters, I can't answer all your questions but you make a reasonable point about the voting system. Unfortunately I doubt the producers or powers that be would ever scrap multiple voting because there is to much money involved, it must be quite lucrative.

My husband insists that the software that processes the votes disregards multiple votes from the same number.
My response to this is not suitable for a family forum as surely that would mean that he and I would only have worthwhile vote between us. If we voted (which we don't so it's all out fault that you-know-who is still there) it would mean us fighting over the phone to see who gets in first!

Some people vote once, I guess a lot vote several times, and some vote more than is good for their bank balance!

Thank you all for your welcomes!

The voting thing is a tricky one isn't it? I think that if there was more than one person you liked you might want to vote more than once but it seems a wee bitty unfair if a member of the public has someone's SCD number on speed dial and a blatant disregard for the cost involved! My one lonely vote seems a little lost!!

Still at least the system is better than before when the phone lines opened on - Monday, was it? - a week before anyone had even set a diamante-encrusted tootsie on the dance floor. But at least the money went to CIN then.

So it's possible the overall votes don't accurately reflect those of the GBP.
*deep sigh and shake of the head*
But then there are worse injustices in the world!

Actually as a newbie it's quite refreshing to see it written down so clearly.
We are frequently told "Everyone loves X" when what it really means is that X's supporters vote the most, not that they are the most numerous.

I think it's important to keep in mind that it is some kind of entertainment show. Overall I think there are voters who use multiple votes (and it's their right), but I wonder if this really makes such a big difference. For instance if Kara is liked by the majority of voting people, and Scott is only liked by few, the few who vote multiple times are probably less likely to push his votes higher than Kara's majority.

After all the phone vote competition scandals, the link with CIN was broken for Series 6 and now you can only vote for a short time after the Saturday show finishes. The BBC makes no money from the voting (it is not allowed to) btw, so any profit from the phone votes would belong to the company who runs the voting system.

The voting is verified every week by an independent company and someone from that company was on ITT once to explain how it all worked.

The main argument I have with multi voting and claims that it "evens itself out" is that there are no guarantees all couples are getting an equal amount of multi votes. Viewer vote scores could be separated by only one or two phone votes!

All we do know is five individuals voting once each will be totally wiped out by one person voting 10 times. So the majority do not get their say.
