There's been a number of times throughout the series where the candidates (particularly Laura) have been complaining about the fact that they haven't been able to close certain sales and it's not fair etc.

My question is, do you agree with the candidates complaining about sales for their own personal benefit or do you think that a good candidate knows they're all working for the same team and doesn't care as long as the deal is made?

On some of the tasks individual sales have been noted, so presumeably if they lost then it could be pivital in the boardroom.
I'm not sure thats really a good idea though - if they are going out as a team then all sales should be for the team. Especially when there are candidates like Paloma who are quite happy to lock their teammates out by offering exclusivity

If they each have a sales book (and particularly if Sugar has made the point that they will be judged on individual sales) it's perfectly appropriate for them to complain if things are not above board.

It would be particularly unfair if one candidate invalidated or preempted another's sales as has potentially happened on occasion.

How does that help when they've been told they will be judged on individual performance?

It depends. I thought Melissa was wrong in task 1 because on that occasion they didn't have individual sales books. Joanna was right to want that sub-team to go out again and get more punters. Melissa was driven entirely by ego.

When they do have individual books it is more valid. Although I still hate it because it pitches team members against each other. The reality is if they lose, members with poor sales are vulnerable and the excuse, "I brought them in, the other person closed" doesn't wash.

What they then should do is sort it out in advance. Part of the problem with Laura is that she rightly objected to Sandeesh jumping into her pitch, but then not only jumped into Paloma's, but wanted part of Paloma's sale as a reward. Usually the candidates figure it out, but for the shopping list task Laura and Stella didn't seem to have and actually worked against each other.

In normal life it shouldn't matter who closes the sale but on this programme Sugar seems to favour those who take the lead and are ruthless over the others.
