I need a new battery for my nokia. Is it worthwhile getting one or just buying a new phone.

I'm not bothered about gadgets and things, my basic nokia is a phone, and does photo [not great quality but a bonus]

Another basic phone will do, so long as I can upload to/from the pc occasionally

A new battery is going to cost around £5 (that's what I paid for a battery for my old phone, a Nokia 6210, last year).

Compare that with what a new basic Nokia will cost you.

yep, so long as I can keep the same number, same payments etc instead of messing about. Might be a good time for buying too ie run up to Xmas....

Number won't be affected, just transfer your SIM card into the new phone and away you go.

Before you do this though, make sure that your contacts are stored on the SIM card and not the phone.

Use the 'copy' function on your old phone to transfer any contacts stored in the phone onto the SIM.

Then you're done.

will I have to go to o2 - to buy it or to transfer data etc - or a cheaper place like carphone warehouse ?

Assuming you're with O2 now, you need to either buy a phone that is locked to O2 (from their shop, carphone warehouse, phones 4U, online etc) or an 'open to any network' one. Go for the cheapest.

Transfer any contacts from your old phone onto the SIM card (if applicable) and then put your current SIM into the new phone that you bought.
That's it.

If you're not sure about transferring contacts from your old phone, just ask in the shop. Staff do this kind of thing all the time, and the whole process takes only seconds to complete.

I'd rather do that, and carphone warehouse looks to be the cheapest place, providing I don't need to change any direct debits etc with o2.
