I see CNBC are bringing back opera and ballet for Christmas. They're showing the Tales of Beatrix Potter on Christmas Eve which I might watch as I loved the books as a kid! They have performances on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I saw the ad when I was watching last night

Did anyone record "Pappano's Essential Tosca"? If so, could they put it on a dvd for me,please?
I live in the UK and would pay for postage costs, etc. |

I like the sound of the concert. I hope the wind stays down for it, almost everything I've recorded recently has glitsches in it where the wind has rattled the dish!

Touch wood ours has been surviving unscathed, which is more than can be said of our fence...
My dish is on my flat roof. It's well secured, but the gusts have been so strong they were rattling it and causing lots of momentary reception problems. The downside of living so close to the coast I suppose. There isn't really anything between my dish and the Continent! |

This is an interesting thread.
I'm surprised that no mention is made of Wagner's "Lohengrin" which was broadcast live on 19.2°E in August - arte by the look of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GbN-k7MHCc It seems a LOT of the interest outside Germany is on the East coast (New York, Florida) and on the West coast of the USA. "Lohengrin: Hitler is informed it features a chorus dressed as rats." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2Pk4eObNRQ |

Sky Arts 2 are also showing an old (~ 1990) "Die Fledermaus" from Covent Garden. I remember watching it when it was on live, one New Year's Eve. It was planned as a farewell to Joan Sutherland, with some special guests, but they clearly didn't want to upstage the main cast.
The solution was clever, in the midle of that opera there's a party scene, usually a ballet. Instead the "guests" at the party were Sutherland, Pavarotti and (I think) Marilyne Horne, who all got to do some party pieces. The main opera cast watched the party, then restarted the show. It's a very entertaining production in English, translated by John Mortimer of "Rumpole" fame, and with John Sessions as the gaoler. When it was first on I was supposed to go to a New Year's Eve party, but started watching this. My only blank video tape was a 3hour one, and I had to wait until there were only three hours left, pressed record, and dashed out to the party! When I checked the next day, the opera had overrun and I'd missed the last 10 minutes It was ages before I found a copy to watch again.

My local cinema, which shows the Met Opera broadcasts is advertising various other live shows in the next few months. These include the Bolshoi Ballet, Rigoletto from the Royal Opera House, and a couple of plays from the National Theatre. Does anyone know if any of these can be picked up from the satellite transmission?

The ROH's "Faust" came through on;
Atlantic Bird 5W Fréquence: 11592 - Pol: H - SR: 12890 It was also on Intelsat and Thor if I remember rightly, but the signal on them wasn't strong enough here in NE England I'm guessing that the same frequencies will be used again, but if there's no joy on any of them, then it's a case of checking out the live feeds and hoping someone spots it. |

As Annied mentioned they mostly seem to use the same feeds and someone normally spots them when they go live about an hour before the event.. |
