yes,the cinema is advertising this at 3PM as a live transmission from the Bolshoi. The last broadcast I think was the re-opening of the theatre following the rebuild and was carried by ARTE live and then on YOUTUBE.(and it's still there) I cant find it this time but I did find somewhere that part of the YOUTUBE empire would be showing the ballet presumably later on.
Well I can help with the YouTube clip as I had it saved in favourites... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA2f7...eature=related

PS. I had a quick look through the Arte listings and couldn't see anything, so just hope the feed gets picked up quickly...

I could not find the feed anywhere for the Bolshoi-is it possible that the cinemas are getting their feeds from cable? Pity if so, there are two more transmissions to come .

Feed was apparently on 0.8W but was mpeg 4, which my receiver can't cope with.

I know its not opera but the ROH is showing Romeo and Juliet live in cinemas on Thursday at 7.45pm. What feed do they normally use?

Some of the previous ROH feeds have been...

Intelsat 905 at 24.5W
Fréquence: 11643
Pol: H
SR: 12890

Intelsat Thor 5-6 at 0.8w.
Frequency 11530
SR 12890
Pol: V

Atlantic Bird 5W
Fréquence: 11592
Pol: H
SR: 12890

In the past I've found 5W to be the best for me as the feed on 0.8W isn't a very strong signal. As I say they normally go live about an hour before the performance starts and you may need to play around with the SR.

Also keep a look out on this site as they often spot them first http://www.satelliweb.com/index.php?section=livef

Thanks for this info, I hope it comes through on 5W. PS. not called Atlantic Bird any longer. The cinemas seem to use Thor 0.8W ,but how do they get their signal up and down the country? Must have dishes the size of Jodrell Bank

Apparently not, I wonder why they changed...

It's borderline on my 60cm dish and I know another poster further North can't get it at all. But I guess they have 1m+ dishes...

Eutelsat has changed it's naming policy for the entire fleet, except for Hotbird.
Eutelsat renaming policy

There are a number of spot beams on the satellites at 0.8W. Most are aimed at Scandinavia, but the Europe beam is quite strong over most of the UK, as is "Spot 1", which may carry the feeds.

Yes, don't forget it's an hour earlier than usual, 5pm British time.

The gales last Tuesday knocked my dish out of alignment yet again, so the engineers were here on Thursday putting it right for me. Turns out I have a 75cm dish, not an 85cm one that the original installers told me, also that it's not a very robust one. Next time it gets knocked for six we're agreed that I'll replace it altogether. This made me ask in passing what size dish I'd need to get Thor at 8W as I'd never managed to get a signal from it in the past. They thought the dish I already had should be more than sufficient, played around a little bit and, hey presto, I now have Thor. I'll be trying it out later on this afternoon.

YEEEEES! It's coming through! Signal strength is about 60% which isn't as high as at 5W, but it should be OK.

Sorry but there's no Thor at 8w.

I can get the transponder on 5w with my small 35cm dish it's that strong.

Did you enjoy it?

We saw Anna perform this live at the ROH and I thought she was brilliant in the role...

With an 80cm dish I get a reasonable signal on 0.8W, however, signal quality only ever comes out at about 65% (most other signals are about 90%).

In spite of that picture and sound are excellent.

Don't forget this gem...

If you have never seen this production with the red settee before then I really would say give it a go. I put off watching Anna's interpretation for years firstly because I'm generally not keen on modernistic productions and secondly because it is my favourite opera and I didn't want to taint that. I ask you to trust me when I say it just works....

Verdi’s La Traviata

April 14, 2012, 12:55 pm ET

Natalie Dessay will put on the red dress in Willy Decker’s stunning production, in her first Violetta at the Met. Matthew Polenzani sings Alfredo, Dmitri Hvorostovsky is Germont, and Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium.

Approximate running time: 3 hours, 5 minutes
A link to the cast sheet can be found here http://www.metoperafamily.org/metope.../LiveinHD.aspx and it's worth watching just for that.

Have I convinced you all yet?

Natalie Dessay as Violetta would be enought to convince me! I saw her on Arte, in a production from Aix en Provence. She is superb.

Is everyone getting prepared for "La Traviata" from the Met? Begins at 6pm British time. The signal's coming through on Thor 1W now.

I'll be watching the French version on:

5W
Freq 11592
Hor
SR 25780

At the moment they are playing various clips...

I'm actually out watching a show tonight and so will have to record it.

Edit: to say they are now playing an annoying test loop...
