Hi

Could you please advise if these bolshoi ballet broadcasts are on FTA satellite? If so, could you please advise the details of the statellie channels, feeds? I am kinda new to the satellite related stuff, and if any information if you could provide that a satellite installer would understand, I could let him know as he is helping to me to set one up. Thanks alot for your help

the Bolshoi transmissions have been coming through on 0.8West..This satellite also has the Metopera HD season live with English subtitles, the transmission with french and spanish subtitles are on 5West. These are only used for the live transmissions to participating cinemas in the season and do not broadcast the current season of repeats. The others you mention are usually on 24.5 W. The best way to get all of these would be a motorised dish, if this is possible, but if not you will have to compromise with a dish on .8W and a second lnb on 5 W

Hi

Thanks very much for your help. Could you please elaborate a few things which I am not very clear.
(1) 24.5 W - "the others you mention are usually on 24.5W". What is "the others" refering to?
(2) "second Inb" - what is "inb" in particular?

In some season, they do broadcast some encore (repeat) performance", can the repeat/encore be received from 0.8W and 5W?

Thanks again for your help...

hi balletfan
1) The others were ROH , National Theatre and Glyndebourne, all have FTA satellite transmissions but usually use 24.5 West
2) second lnb means you have one dish but use a bracket to have extra lnbs on the arm to receive different satellites

The Met broadcasts the HDlive season to cinemas. The encores are not on satellite, I assume the cinemas have a BluRay disc. For the live transmissions you need an HD box.

To get the Bolshoi broadcasts you need to have your dish pointed to Thor 0.8West. The frequency is 11475V13999 but you won't get this until an hour before the programme starts

There is a lot of music, opera etc on the German satellites, which are mainly on Astra1 at 19.2 East, so you must decide your priorities when setting up your dish.

Hope this helps and you are not now totally confused!

Hi wombat66

thanks alot again for your kind assistance and quick response... really appreciate them.. You are right that I was totally confused on new to these satelit stuff I think I am more better equipped wth information than before and able to talk some sense I communicate with the installer...hopefully..

My priority is on the Bolshoi Ballet - so Thor 0.8 West will be more applicable to be as top priority. One question is: do you if Bolshoi Ballet's encore/repeat is transmitted through Thor 0.8 West. I know the upcoming season will include 2 ensores...

Also thanks for posting the Bolshoi reopening gala and Raymonda...

If I have other questions, I would seek your help again.. thanks alot..

As you enjoy the open-air concerts, did you see last year's Berlin concert with Domingo, Villazon and the divine Netrebko?
This was the very best I have seen, and is now on YouTube

Absolutely no chance for Astra 19.2 as it is below the horizon for you and Thor would require an enormous dish (probably at least 10 metres) and again is so low to the horizon it would appear impossible.

Seems I've missed quite a bit while I've been away... watching the Olympics with Greek commentary was certainly different

Immediately before that, this might be worth watching - pity it's only 45 minutes.

What you need to do is find a site similar to this http://www.satelliweb.com/index.php?section=livef but which lists US feeds as opposed to European, then just watch out for them being listed about an hour before the performances start. Once you know what satellites they are on you can then come up with a suitable set-up for your location.

Does anyone here keep an eye on French television?

I've heard that a lot of the Paris productions are broadcast on their normal television channels. I've caught the odd one when I've been channel hopping, but I don't spend a lot of time on Atlantic Bird and I don't get a French TV guide, so I've never seen one from the start.

I'm not organised enough to check online every week I'm afraid! I was just hopeful there might be some folk who keep an eye on the French channels the way several of us post if we see anything coming up on the the German ones.
