Next opera from the Met is this Saturday at 6PM BST- Otello
I'll certainly be checking that I can get the signal. It's not my favourite Verdi opera, although I did try hard to master it years ago as I had a ticket to hear Domingo sing it at the ROH. Having gone all the way down to London it was one of the very few performances he pulled out of through illness! (I also had a ticket for "Faust" with John Tomlinson at the Coliseum and he, fortunately, stayed healthy so all was not lost!)

Just got back from Germany by the way. I'd got tickets for a recording of "Fünf gegen Jauch", to be aired on 14th December. Interesting experience. (If anyone watches it, I'm the very small woman sitting next to an extremely fat guy in a turquoise checked shirt!)

Yep, got strong signals on both 5W and 0.8W.

I'll be sticking with the latter too though.

I'll have to set my timer too, I'll be in mid-air on my way to a long weekend in Nürnberg for the Christmas markets when it goes out!

Yes, it was very enjoyable and Günther looked exactly the same as he does on the screen. They pretty much went straight through it and when they cut for a commercial break the make-up people came on and the props people were busy so there wasn't really any time for either Günther or any of the "5" to relax.

Talk about a captive audience though. They started ushering us into the studio at around 18.15. That took a good half an hour, then the warm up guy had to do his bit. The show proper began at about 19.15 and ran through until 22.45. Once in the studio, if you left, you couldn't get back in again. We were lucky with our seats. We faced Günther, and were directly in front of the part of the floor where most of the "incidental business" happened. The cameras stayed mainly at the sides and even on the few occasions they were in front of us, we were high enough up to be able to see over them.

The only glitsch from my point of view was that the monitors were so small, that it was well nigh impossible to read the questions and possible answers on them. At home I often have to read through them a few times to work them out, sometimes with the help of a dictionary. At the recording I couldn't do either. Fortunately most of the questions were quite short and I think there were only 2 that had me completely baffled from beginning to end.

(We also had to sign RTL's version of the Official Secrets Act., which in effect gives them the right to fine us 50,000 Euros if we give anything away before the programme airs!)

Live in cinema today at 3PM

"Glyndebourne is treating cinema audiences this autumn with a special cinema screening of Handel’s grandest opera, Giulio Cesare (Julius Caesar)."

I can't remember the satellite that Glyndebourne used last time, I think it was 0.8W

I nearly always watch it on 5W with the French subtitles as I get a better signal... 0.8W is always weaker for me and I learnt the hard way drops out in heavy rain.

Pity you could not find it on 0.8W......

11.472 V 13310 3/4 English

The above – Strength 70% Quality 59% - 66% depending on rain.

Worked fine for me...note that the symbol rate is exactly half that on 5E

Radio3 does not appear to be broadcasting the Met live this season, wonder why?
Met Opera relays seem to reappear in Radio 3's schedules from 8th December (not the 15th) then 22nd, 29th, etc.

RTE's Lyric FM radio channel broadcasts an 'Opera Night' on Saturdays at 8pm and features the Met Season during the winter. (Sky channel 0165 or Astra 2 at 10744H 22000 5/6 for those who can't stand Sky!)

Sky Arts 2 (Sky channel 130) is having an opera season starting TONIGHT at 8pm with a La Traviata recording from the Met. Can't find future operas but there are multiple repeats showing up.

Finally, thanks to Phil Thomas for encouraging me - I have now finally found 0.8W with a good solid signal and looking forward to the next live HD offering.

The next should be Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito on December 1, 2012...

The last broadcast, on 30 September was on AB3 5west,11592H14000.Since then the Odeon group have taken over the Bolshoi transmission, and they have been using 0.8west for their cinemas for the other broadcasts,ROH and Met etc. We shall have to wait and see, and hope Satelliweb
comes up with the feeds
