I got the timing wrong and missed the first hour! I was out in the afternoon and had set up the recorder. I got home about 6.15, switched the television on and couldn't understand how there was already an interval. I finally checked the time of the Radio 3 live broadcast in the Radio Times and it was only then that I discovered it had started at 5pm, not 6pm.
I'm sure it'll be repeated on one of the other channels sooner or later. |

Flashmob opera...
Not satellite-related, but these two Youtube clips (5 mins each) might be of interest to opera fans. They are of a "flashmob"-style event (if 4 people count as a "mob"
) filmed in Grenoble, France, a couple of weeks ago, in a pause betwen rehearsals for "Carmen". I admit to some personal interest here, see below ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Upu96iQH_d0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFLwnJ9boeo Background: a few years ago the Prof who takes the University Orchestra in Grenoble wanted to push the students a little further than the usual concert repertoire. He decided to stage an opera (The Magic Flute), and to get other young people involved he also approached other art/design colleges for scenery/costumes/makeup/hairstyling. A local choir provided chorus members (including my wife!), so apart from the paid soloists and the director it was an almost wholly amateur production. The venue was a big hall more often used for rock concerts, but they needed somewhere that could hold enough people at a reasonable ticket cost to at least break even. It was very succesful, 4 nights with around 2000(!) spectators each night, and has become an annual event. This year they're doing "Carmen", as I type this they are in mid-performance to a full house (~2500 people). With 60+ people in the chorus, and 450 students involved behind the scenes, it's become quite an occasion. To spread the word a couple of the soloists (Carmen and Escamillo) were recruited to do a spontaneous performance in a local restaurant, to see what the customer reaction would be when one of the "waitresses" suddenly burst into the Habenera. That's what's on the (very well filmed) youtube videos. |

Thanks for that one, I'd definitely have missed it if I hadn't been given the nod. I've just set the timer.
I'm always being caught out by that because when we record it the box just takes care of the difference, but if we want to watch it we have to remember it's normally an hour earlier than advertised

Having been caught out recently by the Met starting an hour earlier than usual, that's an apt warning!
I've set the timer via the EPG, so it should be fine (I hope). I've also extended the time by 30 minutes as live broadcasts can overrun drastically and I like seeing all the curtain calls. |

I've just realised that by the time I've recorded these I'll have about 20 hours of opera to catch up on
I think I best watch some of them this weekend...

Anyone picking up the Met's signal? I'm getting the normal channels on Atlantic Bird 3 all right, but no signal from TP 11675H.

English subtitled one is at 0.8w
11531 V 12890 some people may have problem viewing it as it is in 4:2:0 (I can view it no probs - I guess I could record it if needed by anyone?) |

Oh yes please! That would be great, it's quite a cast! Thanks.
I've just got the other French channels on Atlantic Bird 3 back, so all I can assume is that I'm just not getting a strong enough signal on the transponder the Met uses. Never been a problem before though. |

Yep, that's the one. One way and another I don't seem to have a lot of luck with the Met broadcasts!
