My King Lear was subject to several dropouts although mostly showing 60% signal quality. Did anyone else notice a variable signal? Is my dish inadequate? Was the heavily overcast sky to blame? Or was that just a weaker than average transponder?
(11495V) I agree that modern dress can be off-putting but Simon Russell Beale made up for it!

Not sure about this one! There's not much else around at the moment as far as I can see though.

Thanks for the reminder. Didn't know Manon previously. Enjoyed the music once I found the subtitles, but not the staging and even spotted a friend in the chorus,.

I can't say I liked the production...but the performances were awesome. Pappano is the greatest Puccini conductor, bar none. If you like Manon Lescaut, try The Met 1983? recording, with a young Domingo and the great Renata Scotto

Wed. 25th Carmen from Verona on Arte.

Die Zauberflote coming up on Wednesday 9th on ARTE at 2015 CET/1915 BST apparently live from the Aix festival. There is a Glyndebourne Don Giovanni advertised for Sunday 6th but it is a recording and may not be broadcast but it appears to be available on line.

Came out top in BBC Radio 3`s recent "Building a library" review of this wonderful opera.

I came across the "'Forza" from Munich on Arte this evening too late to post about it, but at the end, the presenter said that the next transmission from the Munich Opera would be "Il Trovatore" on 15th August with Anna Netrebko and Placido Domingo. I've just double checked on the Arte website and it starts at 20.15, presumably that'll be 19.15 British time.

Let's hope it is better than the hideous ugly production of La Forza...the best music Verdi ever wrote...totally destroyed. Bah humbug!

It WAS pretty dire wasn't it?! If all goes according to plan, I'll be in the Munich area when it's on again in April and had been toying with the idea of applying for tickets, but I don't think I could cope with that production.

Yes, a great pity...why do these great artists have to get involved in such awful productions? I was looking forward to Andrea Chenier at ROH, normally David Mc Vicars
productions are brilliant...BUT as yet I can't find out much about it.

Incidentally there is a brilliant Elijah Moshinsky production of La Forza from the Mariensky Theatre, still as far as I know, available on DVD. That in itself says it all.

If you can follow German, or possibly even if you can't, the programme immediately before could be interesting too, it's all about what goes on behind the scenes of the production.

As usual, ARTE France will be showing the same programme, but 35 minutes later than the German transmission--- Very handy if you miss the start on German !
