Stretched out on the settee with a takeaway and a glass of wine is about as far as I get!

Still sounds good to me

These might be worth a look...

SUNDAY 17 APRIL

Opera
Best of European Opera 2010
HR 08:35, 60 min

Opera
Best of European Opera
The best opera performances in 2009
SWR 08:45, 60 min

Then one I will be looking forward to...

THURSDAY 21 APRIL

Opera
Carmen
From the Vienna State Opera
BR 22:45, 170 min

Incidentally I didn't get on with Dido and Aeneas the other day, I enjoyed some of the music but the whole production just left me cold TBH.

This sounds like one that'll be worth watching. "TV Today" doesn't list the early morning programmes, so I'd have missed it. (I presume it's the same programme on each channel.)

I'm a real philistine, I just can't get on with baroque at all.

I thought so when I first saw it but they list different years so now I'm not sure if that is just a typo or not...

I just checked the online schedules for HR and SWR and they're both 2009 according to the websites.

Somewhere in the recesses of my brain I'm remembering a programme along these lines on the BBC last Christmas. As I recall the clips were nearly all from really obscure operas, so don't get your hopes up!

Think that was a typo and you meant "Boheme", which is all to the good as far as I'm concerned as "Boheme" is a favourite and "Tosca" isn't!

Did you notice that there's a short documentary about Anna Netrebko immediately afterwards. According the the blurb, a Russian director followed her around for a year recording details of her personal life as well as her professional one. Sounds interesting.

No, La Boheme started an hour earlier on 3Sat so they overlapped a bit and I opted for Tosca...

La Boheme is one of my favourite operas, but because of that I've seen it so many more times than Tosca and I hadn't seen Tosca for years.

As an aside the Headmistress at my primary school had a dog called Tosca.

Oops, my mistake, I'm confusing 3 Sat and BR Alpha.

Did you catch the Netrebko documentary?

I have a friend, a real opera buff, who has always named her cats after characters in opera. She had a Tosca too.

No I'm afraid I missed the documentary...

Funnily enough I almost recorded BR-Alpha instead of BR the other day, fortunately I realised in time.

My wife's female mice have been named after opera characters for a while too, at the moment we have a Violetta, Manon, Tosca and we recently lost Adina...

Have to say unless I've missed something the schedule for the coming week is looking a bit blank! Then like buses...

SATURDAY 07 MAY

Opera
Jules Massenet: Werther
Arte 08:50, 165 min

Opera
Netrebko, Damrau, Domingo ... at the Vienna State Opera
Farewell Gala Ioan Holender
Arte 11:35, 45 minutes

Opera
Giuseppe Verdi: Rigoletto
Arte 12:20, 140 min

Opera
A. Gheorghiu, singing J. Kaufmann Adriana Lecouvreur
Arte 20:15, 155 min

Opera
Dido and Aeneas
Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin 2005
ZDF Theater Channel 10:10, 100 min

Don't get too excited, you may find you've seen some of them. I definitely already have the "Werther" and the Gala for Ioan Holender.

The "Rigoletto" sounds interesting, if only for the dire production! But Florez is always worth hearing and I'm becoming a Damrau fan too. "Si vendetta" and the build up to it is one of my all time favourites, so I'll definitely be setting the recorder. http://operachic.typepad.com/opera_c...n-arte-tv.html

I'd like to get the "Adriana Lecouvreur" too.

I've always enjoyed her performances, but then as you may have guessed good sopranos are my first love musically...

On another note I'm really hoping the reformatting of the ZDF Theaterkanal isn't bad news, but I can't help fearing the worst

There was a very interesting documentary about her on one of the German channels a few weeks ago. I warmed to her as a person as well as admiring her voice.

My "TV Today" for 7rh - 20th May arrived today. It's not looking good, although Platée on 12th sounds as though it might be quite interesting.

I've just seen the 4 week schedule in another thread and have to say it's looking dire... pretty much a case of move along, nothing to see here.

Thanks, I didn't know about it either. Pity there's no EPG, my track record at checking schedules online isn't good!

Gneiss, ZDF Kultur is showing "L'Elisir d'amor" on Thursday 14.35 - 1650 UK time. It's a 2007 production from Bergamo.

Do you have both Arte frequencies scanned in?
As only 10743H,gives a seven day epg,11934V only provides now/next epg,on Astra 1.

ARTE France on 11.934 v Astra only has now and next epg and no teletext
arte Germany on 10.743 h Astra has 7 day epg and has teletext which gives the day's programmes for the French version starting at page 400, in the evenings this is important as the two channels schedules have variations in the programme start times, if you look at the 'showcase' page on my site there is a little more information you might find useful about the two 'Arte's

Also the German Arte is significantly better picture quality-wise as it has a high bitrate along with being at full resolution, whereas the French version is at half resolution (544x576) and always looks pretty soft to me!
