It's certainly an option, but I like to copy the transmissions onto DVD and this was one I particularly wanted, so it's really annoying to have missed the beginning.

Bother it, does much happen in the first 15 minutes?!
I was out all afternoon, got back here just after 5pm thinking I had plenty of time only to find the Met transmission had already started. |

Met opera transmission times
I've always found that the best way of checking the screening times is by looking at the Odeon cinema site, this also gives the length of the performance

[quote=Annied;77343516]Ack, now you're rubbing salt into the wound, I actually lost more time trying to do just that! I kept finding running times, but no start times.
to find the start time just go to 'book now' and then to a cinema-they are all showing at the same time ! |

I've just been talking to a friend who went to the cinema to see the performance. Believe it or not, her ticket, which she'd bought a few weeks ago, had 17.30 printed on it as the start time. Luckily she'd arrived very early as she wanted to have a meal before the performance started, so she found out in time that it was incorrect. She said that judging by the number of latecomers a lot of other people did get caught out though.

This is terrible ! I have checked the Odeon and Picturehouse Groups which both show the start time of the opera as 4.55 pm, which is the same as the official Met web-page, so I don't know where the 5.30 pm came from on your friend's ticket. I hope people asked for their money back !

http://www.metopera.org/metopera/liv...2014-15-season Oddly, an "encore" performance of ROH's Andre Chenier is on 0.8E 11471V /14400 (from a previous posting by Ben's grandad) |

Apparently there was an encore performance at Hackney Picturehouse yesterday lunchtime (17th). They're also listing an encore performance of Cav and Pag on Tuesday 28th April at 12.30. I'll be in Germany, so won't be able to check, but perhaps someone could keep an eye on it and report back?

It's not live, but it's on Monday, not Sunday, at 10.15 pm BST. with Jonas Kauffmann. Should be good!
Can't see it on the EPG anywhere for Sunday or Monday? |

It's there, but it comes up on my EPG as "Osterfestspiel Salzburg 2015".
By the way, we're missing things - I was channel hopping late the other evening and came across a documentary about Rossini on ZDF Kultur followed by "La Pietra del Paragone". It was a recording of a performance from a few years ago. Unfortunately it was too late to be worth posting here, only night owls would still have been around. Edited to add that I've just had a quick browse through ZDFKultur's coming programmes and there's a "Werther" on Thursday 23rd April, although I couldn't find any details of who was in it. It's on at 21.25 German time and again at 00.25. |

Interestingly, 3SAT is listing 'Cav & Pag' - also from this year's Salzburg Osterfestspiele at 2015 CET on Saturday 11th. Take your pick! We also have Verdi's Otello on ARD-alpha tonight at 2015 CET from Barcelona (2006). |

Thanks for the info. Just browsing: 'Cav' looks to be live on ORF2 Europe tonight at 2200 CET (didn't see any mention of 'Pag') and then delayed on ZDF at 2315.

So will be interesting to see Cav again with Pag next Saturday. TV director was still Brian Large after all these years. Regards to all, |

I'm actually in Germany at the moment and have picked up a TV guide for 4 weeks from 18th April. It's missing a couple of channels that can be worth keeping an eye on, but I've flicked through the 3Sat, Arte and regional channels listings and found the following.
18th April 3Sat 20.15 - 22.25 German time Manon Lescaut 19th April Arte 22.45 - 02.10 German time Cosi van tutte 10th May Arte 23.30 - 03.40 German time Guilio Cesare in Egitto |

Mezzo Live HD Free to Air on 9E
Mezzo Live HD is temporarily FTA at the moment on Eutelsat 9E transponder 69, 12092 H, SR 27500 FEC 3/4. I did a spanning blind search from 12050 H to 12120 H. A nice strong transponder. The Live is generally a misnomer as there are lots of repeats of recorded goodies. Highlights repeating at the moment or impending are the Magic Flute (Rattle, Baden Baden, Berlin Phil., a wonderful Strauss Arabella from Vienna; Don Giovanni with Schrott and Netrebko from Baden; Idomeneo; a live (I think) Rameau Dardanus from Barcelona. Also lots of Mariinski Ballet and the excellent Gergiev Marriinski Shostakovich symphony cycle which is also being shown in SD on ARD-alpha. Note that Mezzo Live HD is different to Mezzo HD. Programs are at http://www.mezzo.tv/notre-grille-de-programmes. Enjoy while you can.
Despite the supposed existence of an open market in the EU, viewers in the UK, Ireland and Italy are unable to even subscribe to Mezzo. I am guessing it's because BSkyB don't like competition with Sky Arts. Somebody should complain to the competition commisioner. |

Stabat Mater (Anna Netrebko)
One for timer recording Gneiss! ![]() Totally off topic, but just in case anyone is unaware of this site I thought I'd post it here. http://www.theoperaplatform.eu/en "The Opera Platform is the online destination for the promotion and enjoyment of opera. It is designed to appeal equally to those who already love opera and to those who may be tempted to try it for the first time. The Opera Platform offers a range of content from the most popular titles to the most innovative: ■ an average of one showcase complete opera per month from one of 15 partner theatres ■ each showcase opera subtitled in 6 languages and available to enjoy for free for a period of 6 months on demand ■ tantalising highlights from productions throughout Europe ■ curated documentary material setting operas and opera houses within a wider cultural context ■ a rich archive bringing history to life for today’s audiences The Opera Platform is a partnership between Opera Europa, representing 155 opera companies and festivals; the cultural broadcasting channel ARTE; and 15 theatres from across Europe. It is supported by the EC’s Creative Europe programme. It welcomes contributions from all those committed to sharing opera with a wider public." Some great stuff on there. |

Just browsing 0.8 W last night and caught the tail end of Pirates of Penzance from ENO. No mention on Satelliweb. Last few minutes looked good. Drat!

Pirates, of Penzance
Left to my own devices I would have tried for this at home but instead I was taken to a cinema to watch it. ENO were very good and did it well despite G&S not being my favourite thing. I think they are doing HMS Pinafore in a few weeks too.

$ky Arts
Does anyone know if the impending closure of $ky Arts 2 will affect the amount of opera, ballet or serious music we should expect in the future?
