On Arte. All times BST

2nd Aug Carmen from Verona 2014 23.35 - 02.30
4th Aug Guillaume Tell 01.20 - 02.50. As far as I can work out, this is a 2013 production from the Opéra Royal de Wallonie.

Might be worth keeping more of an eye on the French channels. I happened to go there just now and there's a whole night of Puccini operas on France 2 tonight.

I don't know where you are looking but I can't see this advertised anywhere ?

It's too late now, I didn't post full details as it had already started when I made the post just before I went to bed last night and I didn't anticipate that anyone would see it in time. It was mostly Puccini, Suor Angelica, Gianni Schicchi, Il Tabarro, plus a couple of short operas that I'd never heard of. It went on for about 5 hours in all. They were recordings of live performances from Lyons on 11th Feb 2012.

On Friday 31 July, 8.15 p.m. (German time) will be a free live stream from Munich, opera ‘Manon Lescout’ by Puccini, staging Jonas Kaufmann and Kristine Opolais.

No idea if this will be on satellite anywhere but it is being streamed live from here https://www.staatsoper.de/tv.html

Unfortunately Munich Opera have decided to transmit productions only by live online streaming. Hard luck if you have a slow connection (like me)

I thought that was a short timespan for Rossini Guillaume Tell - it is however Guillaume Tell by Gretry!

I came across it too, but too late to catch it on the recorder - I think it was a good halfway through the first part when I found it. I've just noticed however that Servus TV are repeating it early tomorrow (16th) from 07.15 - 10.36 BST. (It's a live performance from the 2015 Salzburg Festival.)

Where is everyone - I feel as though I've taken over this thread!

I've just arrived for my autumn trip to Bavaria and bought a TV guide eariler today. Apparently La Scala are performing "L'Elisir d'amor" at Milan Airport tomorrow evening. According to the guide, Adina and Nemorino (Vittorio Grigolo) flirt in the Airport restaurant and the orchestra pit is in the Check-In hall.

It's on Arte live, Thursday 17th Sept from 20.15 - 23.05 German time.

I haven't had a chance to look right through the guide, but if I notice anything else, I'll add a further post.

I thought everyone had lost interest or even fallen off their perches! A Quiet summer but nice stuff from France (FR3) and even a Glyndebourne Saul from $ky Arts. I caught a Rocky Horror Show Friday evening but that is a bit off subject.

For ballet fans, Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet is live from ROH on Tuesday 22 Sept at 7.30pm. I assume that the usual feeds will be used but keep your eye on Satelliweb

I've had a quick look through the TV Guide and there isn't a great deal, but here's what I found. All times are German.

ZDF Kultur have a series of programmes coming on 1st October titled "The Ring". As each programme is only an hour long and covers an entire opera, I'm not sure what this is - the EPG explanation wasn't any help. It begins at 20.15, goes on until 00.15 and is repeated from 00.45.

The following are all on Arte

11 October La Finta Gardiniera This begins at 00.10, but the guide doesn't give a finish time and it's too far ahead for me to check on the EPG

23 October 21.45 - 23.40 Schönberg's Moses and Aron

25 October 0015 - 0210 Franck's Stradella

(I'm off to "Madama Butterfly" on Sunday, to hear, I hope, the lovely Joseph Calleja live.)

Do let us know... I have to say, my favourite male voice since Jose Carreras was in his prime...

Mine too, on both counts! The performance definitely lived up to expectations and the Love Duet was absolutely spine tingling. Prices at Munich are half those at the ROH and I'd been lucky enough to pick up a front row ticket, so I had a completely unrestricted view - a real rarity for me as I practically vanish when I sit down. It may not have been the best place acoustically, but Joseph still sounded wonderful to me. I also liked the baritone, whose name escapes me at the moment. (I'm having to use a local cafe's free internet as I woke up this morning to find my dongle had decided it was in Austria, so I don't have the programme to hand. The downside of being only 3 fields away from the border!)

Jonas Kaufman Puccini tonight at 19:30 CET in German/Austrian/Swiss Cinemas. Test on at the moment on 08.W. Satelliweb showing two frequencies, but one is Jonas (lower one) and the other is Importance of Being Ernest. (Glad I have access to two set-ups )

EDIT: Looks like it will be shown in the English speaking world on the 17th of November.

Turns out is was a live Q&A that followed a local showing of the concert film. Wonder if they will do a similar thing for the English showing.

Glad you enjoyed it

I wonder if any one watched or recorded Il Trovatore and Otello from the Met?

On both occasions I experienced break up on sound and vision which often (but not always) seemed to be triggered by the sub titles. However, since it was the same on all the satellite feeds I find it hard to believe it was a problem with my receiver. It was still present on the 5 deg. west French and Spanish dedicated feeds.

Never had any problems in previous years.

The Il Trovatore production wasvery good with standing ovations for Dimitry Hvorostovsky. Not too keen on the Otello, although Sonya Yoncheva was absolutely stunning.

Regards to all,

Phil Thomas

What great news, sounds like he's made a wonderful recovery from his brain tumour. I didn't expect him to be back performing so soon.
