I have no idea of the program but it might be worth watching...

SATURDAY, 25 JUNE

Concert Summer Night Gala 2011 Grafenegg Wolkenturm Grafenegg, 3sat shows a record of 17 June 2011 20:15 3Sat, 90 minutes

********************************

CNBC Sunday broadcast....

Die Walküre

The second part of Wagner’s epic Ring Cycle, the Norse legend of the hero Siegfried. Christian Thielemann, “by common consent the leading Wagner conductor of our time”, returns to Bayreuth for this radiant account, combining grandeur and intimacy, recorded live at the 2010 Festival. Johan Botha stars as Siegmund, and Edith Haller as his sister and lover, Sieglinde.

According to "TV Today" it includes works by Haydn, Mozart, Berg and Respighi and Stravinsky. There's a soprano mentioned, Genia Hümeier, but also a cellist and clarinettist. Overall it sounds as though it might be more orchestral than operatic. Could be a treat if you enjoy both.

It is "more orchestral",with some ballet thrown in for good measure.

There's a tiny link to the schedule in the box on the lhs immediately above the "Specials" list on this page.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/15838668

It takes you to this page, which gives programme lists and times.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/25098361/

By the way, " Classic Open Air" on RBB at 1915 UK time tomorrow includes performances from Jose Carrreras, Montserrat Caballé, Roberto Alagna, José Cura, Lucia Aliberti and Thomas Quasthoff. A whole load of other non opera performers are also listed however and the programme only lasts for 45 mins so it could be a "blink and you miss 'em" thing.

CNBC's website? No it's not that useless really. At least I don't think it is.

*checks the CNBC site* You're right, and it says it starts at 1700.

If you can get France 2 (via TNTSAT, or clear on AB3), they're carrying Aida live from the "Choregies d'Orange" next Tuesday (12th). Starts at 8:35 (French time) with a programme on Tutenkhamen, with the opera starting at 9:40pm. I'd guess this is "almost live", these performances usually start around 9ish, so they've probably added a start delay to let them skip the interval. Scheduled to end at 23:50, which I don't believe. I'd say past midnight. There might be a feed somewhere, I suppose.

If you ever get the chance to go to the Choregies, take it! They're held in the old Roman theatre in Orange. It's an amazing feeling, sitting with 10,000 people in a 2,000-year-old Roman theatre under (usually) warm Provencal skies listening to grand Opera! It's one of the very few Roman theatres that still has an intact accoustic wall at the back of the stage. Before the performance all the restaurants in town are packed, and when it finishes & everyone floods out at midnight, all the cafes are alive with people chatting about the show over a beer or a glass of wine (or, on one memorably unusual freezing night, over mugs of hot chocolate!).

Tickets for the best seats are silly prices, but the upper tiers aren't too bad.

They've now updated it...

This Sunday's performance is the Ballet - Mayerling which looks quite interesting if you are into dance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayerling_(ballet)

Unfortunately I won't get it as it's not FTA on 19.2 but thanks for the Headsup...

When did they change it? They were quick! I like dance but am not really into ballet much, I've never done it. I'm too clumsy for it really

I'm not sure, I only flick through the schedules once or twice a week so that is where this thread comes in handy...

My biggest problem is keeping up with all the recordings!

Thanks for that, it's on as I type.

Just got the new TV Today this afternoon. I haven't looked right through it yet, but there's a live performance of "La Traviata" from Aix en Provence on 16th July with Natalie Dessay on Arte. 20.30 - 23.40 British time.

Two more.

3Sat Sat 23rd July "Telemaco ossia L'isola di circe" 19.15 - 21.20 British time. Apparently it's a production from the Schwezinger Festival in May 2011.

3Sat Fri 29th July "Frau ohne Schatten" 19.15 - 22.20 British time. It's a live performance from Salzburg.

Thanks, that will be worth looking for. I saw her at Orange a couple of years ago, as Olympia in the Tales of Hoffman. She's such a clever comedy actress, as well as having a great voice.

The recordings from CNBC or other channels as well? Don't know what CNBC are showing this week as I haven't seen any opera adverts on the channel and I've watched a fair bit today.

I try to do as many channels as I have links/info on and that time will allow, so you'll notice a few gaps when I get too busy...

Sounds interesting. If I've understood the blurb correctly, it's a village with only 80 inhabitants. Every year they convert a pig sty into a concert hall and stage an opera there. They get the soloists in from Berlin. Everyone in the village mucks in where they can, building the stage, lending props from their own homes, making the costumes etc. They're putting on Purcell's "King Arthur" this year.

Yes, it sounds like it might be worth watching....

BTW - I've put it off far too long, I'm finally ordering my dish motor this week! So I expect they'll be a fair bit of swearing and cursing when I come to fit it net weekend
