I'll actually be in the Herrenchiemsee area next week visiting friends!
Any chance of getting to see anything?

I think the festival is held in July, so it's over now, but the friends I'm staying with aren't into opera at all, so we'll be finding some middle ground whilst I'm there.

Angelika and I used to work together, many, many years ago, in a small record shop in Germany. I weighed just over 7 stone in those days and still have memories of richocheting off the shelves when we practised rock and roll during quiet times!

(Should get Mefistofeles in the post to you later today by the way.)

Thank you, Gneiss, for mentioning this thread in the opera one, and thank you, Annied, for this

Aida am Rhein 2010 live performance from Basel ZDFkultur Thu 11th Aug 20.30 - 23.05. I found more info about it here.
http://opera-cake.blogspot.com/2010/...-at-rhine.html
though I read it too late for this I checked opera-cake anyway, to find ZDF streams some, anyway, of its live music. I'm happily watching and listening to Schrott, Netrebko, and Kaufmann right now!

Yes they have their own version of I-Player, although a lot of the arts programs don't get included... nothing new there!

This is a repeat, so you may have caught it first time round. I'll be interested to hear what you make of it if you didn't. I wasn't impressed! There were great chunks of it with no music as I recall.

OK, I hadn't seen it and probably the shortest answer is I wish I hadn't bothered...

To be honest I didn't watch it all the way through, I absolutely hated the production and gave up after 45 minutes!

That doesn't surprise me, I found it completely bizarre.

By the way, I noticed on the other thread that you'll be joining me at the Met in the future.

I attempted to watch the documentary about Maria Malibran featuring Cecilia Bartoli last night, but the combination of a mixture of French, English and Italian all too clearly audible in the background with a German voiceover defeated me.

Indeed I will

And I hate that too, I really don't understand why they don't just cut the original sound track or use subtitles... but they seem to do it an awful lot on German TV.

Normally I don't mind it too much because the original sound track is usually muted enough for me to able to ignore it completely, but with this programme there were times when it seemed almost as loud as the voiceover!

Again, not a great deal I can find at the moment... How do people find out about the Met feeds BTW???

SUNDAY, 25 SEPTEMBER

Opera Gala Opera of young voices concert for the Emmerich Smola Promotion Prize 2011, Art Nouveau-Festhalle Landau, January 2011 11:30 3Sat, 60 minutes

And this may be worth watching:

ARD International Music Competition, winner 2011 put themselves before the ARD Music Competition of the largest classical music competition in the world. BR 22:45, 90 min

Remember to allow for the time difference - I've actually set my box for German time so I don't have to any more

Thank's, I'm probably being a bit slow but what will I be looking for when I go there? Will it say MET Opera feed or words to that effect?

Also how long before the performance starts does it normally go live?

I haven't seen a single ad on CNBC for it yet but I will confess that I haven't been watching as much CNBC as I did in the summer I don't have as much time.

I emailed their customer services and asked - this was the rather unhelpful reply:

"We are unable to provide additional information about specific shows at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause you.

If you have any further comments, please let us know. We will make every effort to respond to your email within 24 hours. Thank you for choosing CNBC."

^ That's a rather useless reply they sent you. Who did you email in there? I know a few people in there I like the bit "thank you for choosing CNBC"

Haven't been here for a bit, life got rather too hectic for comfort for a while!

So far it's always been the same frequency.

5 West
Frequency 11675 H
SR 25780
FEC 5/6

I think I had to add the transponder before I could do a scan. The Met feed is the only channel that downloads and I think it has Met in the title. It's almost certainly stating the obvious, but you can only do the scan once the live feed has begun.

The live feed begins approximately 2 hours before the performance starts. There are excerpts from operas and a man with a clapperboard, so you wouldn't be in any doubt that you'd downloaded the right channel.

There's a list of what's on here.

http://www.metoperafamily.org/metope.../LiveinHD.aspx

I'm really looking forward to the "Faust", it's always been a favourite of mine.

Thank you, I can add it and save a bit of time on the day if it's already in there... I'm still finding my way around on the new box.

I'm so looking forward to this whole series not having had the option to watch from home, and it's actually quite hard to book these even when they are on locally...

We'll need to keep an eye out tomorrow. I go to the same page as rparslow's link too and if the live feed from the ROH can be picked up, there's an excellent chance it'll be listed there.

http://www.satelliweb.com/index.php?section=livef

Gneiss, you just enter the frequency, polarity and SR and, assuming your receiver then shows that it's picking up a signal, do a scan. On the downside, if you see MPEG-2 4:2:2 on the listing, it probably won't work as most home receivers, including mine, can only handle MPEG-2 4:2:0.
